Default New ZC cams, European source ?

Yeah, I know this subject has been beat to death but I was wondering if anybody thought of this. A few weeks back i was flippin through some import car mag (european i guess, all the prices were in pounds, that funky L lookin thing) and I noticed a couple of cam companies (Piper, Kent) that made performance bumpsticks for Rovers and I could swear that I saw a post somewhere for a ZC service manual that was actually for a Rover but went on to say that they use the D16a8 or 9 engine so as far as the engine went it was all the same. Am I just havin a brainfart here or is there possibly something to this? One of the companies had a bunch of cams listed for a 1.6 but that could be any 1.6 and I havent been able to find out what kind of Rover this might actually be for to continue the search. What do you guys think? or

They are the 216 and 416 Rover. That is the manual that has the ZC info.

Hi there, the Rover 216Gti is the same engine as the ZC.

Piper and Kent both do cams for the CRX specifically, and both of them are good companies, if you need any help sourcing some, drop me an e-mail!!

HTH

Dan!!

Here in Holland KENT cams are also widly used in the D-serie's.

And since Rover was owned by Honda in that period ('88 - '94 i believe) the engines are the same.

Hmmmmmm okay, all my Rover knowledge (and it aint much, but here goes.)

The rover was not a land rover or SUV type thing. Kinda looked like an older carrola or somthing. It had both the SOHC and the DOHC ZC in them. The DOHC came in the GTS (or name like GTS) model as far as I know. It is the EXACT same as the JDM ZC.

So In answere to your question, yeah the cams would fit. If they make cams for the 90 rover top model (DOHC) those would be cams for your ZC

This is what I dont understand about everyone having a hard time finding cams for the ZC. If you can get your hands on a stock set of ZC cams, then just send them in to be regrinds. Find out what lift and durration the, say HKS turbo cams are. Then take in your stocks to the local cam guy, and have them reground. There ya go, turbo HKS cams for half the price. And you found them easy.

Dutch Thanks for the info. This is startin to look like it might be the way to go if the cost isnt too prohibitive. I dont really see the point in gettin the stock cams reground to turbo specs if I dont have a turbo and this also assumes that I have an extra set laying around to send out (I dont). Regrinds were starting to look like the only way to go but if I had a choice between regrinds and new billets I would go with the new ones as long the cost wasnt ridiulous but this is something that I'll just have to find out more about.

I was using the HKS turbo ZC cam grind as an example, so uh yeah . But whatever. All Im saying is yes, new billit cams are great, but after shipping and all from the UK or Japan, is it really worth it? Its pretty rare you hear someone say there cams busted and they were regrinds. So whats the point? If its a compitent shop, and you dont go crazy getting them reground over and over to difrent specs, I dont see the problem really.

Just my 2 cents, but hey, blow your cash however you want.

i don't think the piper or kent cams are as hardened as the oem, so they wear quickly.

just something to bare in mind

if you look at crxtreme27's post in this thread, you will see that he used d16a1 valve train components.

i would like to upgrade the components to be able to rev a bit higher...

i saw that breaka, but since the zc was a motor utilized in the uk i would think that someone actually produced componenets intended specifically for the zc

Yeah, Thanks for the input Iain. I guess this is turnin into more of a brainfart than a brainstorm but it was worth a try unless there's somebody out there with more info. If so,let us ZCer's in on it.
