Default Step by step on how to change a Tial WG Spring

I always get asked this so I figured I would show you how easy it is. I will be changing a .65bar to a .45 bar spring.

1) Remove the 6 4mm allen bolts out. I usually loosen up a bolt making a complete turn, then I move to the next one. This keeps the upper cap of the wastgate from being uneven.

2) One the bolts start to come loose, make sure you keep your hand over the cap from popping off. I was able to do this by hand because it was only a .45 bar spring, but if you use a higher spring rate I suggest using a clamp of some sort to hold it down.

3) Now that the cap is off, remove the old spring.

4). Install new spring.

5) Then just install the cap back on over the spring and bolt it back down.

See how easy that was? Now if someone asks you, you can send them to this simple link.

Nice post Art. BTW people, if you cant (or dont) have a clamp, simply have somebody thats near you give you a hand, that spring is pretty tight, and sometimes can be tedious when working with the small allen bolts.. If you do not have some sort of clamp, dont be ashamed to ask a buddy for a hand, its better then loosing an allen bolt...... PS, sorry to bogart your post Art, hehe

I am the master at changing wastegate springs, especially while the car is on the dyno and extremely hot! Now that is a pain in the ***! Good thread art, i get asked this all the time too

Edit : a tip if you're changing the wastegate spring with the wastegate out of the car - put the wastegate in a vise to hold down the upper half while you remove the allen head bolts. Makes it alot easier to back out the allen head bolts sometimes especially if you're using a really stiff spring.

I no get it .

Good write up Art. Things like this may be basic but since I've only been researching turbos for 6 months (with no turbos in the local area) it's very helpful.

NIce one. I was wondering this lately.....

Just one question. Are the springs clearly labelled on their poundages? As they look the same its hard to tell.

Like everyone stated, you do need a vise to hold it down when using a high pressure spring. Since this was a small spring I did it on my kitchen table and didnt feel like putting it in the vice because its colder than **** outside!

I only have a .3 bar spring. Is that too small?
I mean, I'm only running 5psi, and I havea greddy profec B boost controller if I want to boost up.
My wastegate braps kind of loud though. I kinda like it

Even if I want to boost up, I would only plan on running 7 on hi boost, and 5 on the street.

Would I really see any benifit of going with a different spring? What kind of benifits if ANY would I see?

Am I incorrect on my 35mm spring colors???

I thought a red was a 0.45 spring and a yellow was a 0.30 spring.
I know for a fact that green is the 0.65 spring.

I've changed 0.65 springs many times by holding the cap by hand. It is easier with the WG removed and set on a table, with one hand holding down the cap and other hand working the allen wrench.

**I have always used Tial 35mm WGates.**
