Default Cold Air Intake V.S. Short Ram (Top End Low End?)

Will a short ram intake have better top end power than say, a cold air intake will? What if you just have the filter connected to the throttle body. I had a cold air intake on my car and I took the filter and mounted it directly to the TB.

It was beginning to rain very much where I'm located, so I did this as a precaution. I just never got around to putting the CAI back on. I was just wondering if this was myth, or fact. Are the differences even that drastic?

id get a aem bypass valve, it will stop water from entering the intake, if you get 2much water ur piston cant compress water and will hydro lock.

the danger of hydrolocking is only if you completely submerge the filter by driving thru 2ft of water, your butt will not notice the difference between a short ram and a CAI, strapping a cone right on the TB which i drove around on for awhile will greatly increase throttle response but reduce top end due to decreased velocity

does the bypass valve restrict air?

I've been meaning to put it back on, I'm just lazy. I was wondering because I heard that the shorter the piping, (or lack thereof) the better the high end. I did feel increased throttle response but I'm putting the CAI back on anyways. I was JW.

the bypass valve almost negates the benefits of having a CAI, it allows hot air from the engine bay to get into the piping

Putting a bypass valve on a CAI is like having a short ram. Why bother?

no, there is a lot more to intakes than short piping.
The length of pipe determines certain sound waves that air
air going in you TB. This is what the AEM V2 is based on.
This is not a myth but a fact of physics. I think there is a diagram on AEMs
site that explains how this works. Usually the shorter and wider the pipe the
more high end power and vice versa, but not always true because there are exceptions.

The basic theory is, longer piping = more low end, less top end.
