What Alternator?
My alternator just died and was wondering what one i should replace it with? Would it be okay if i got a higher output alternator? I just read on a recent post that some guy tried a teg alt in a 94 coup with a B16. And he had problems with ampage. He finaly got the Del sol alternator.
First: What alternator should i get? I have a B17 with a OBD0 to OBD1 conversion in a CRX with a P28 ECU. I am guessing get any DOHC OBD1 alternator?
Second: What ampage does my setup need? Would it be cool to get a higher ampage one? If so what one would be a good choice?
Third: Whats a easy way to get the old alternator out of the bay? I did some searching and all sound a bit tedious. Would it come out if i took off the oil filter?
Thanks for your help!!
ps. if you live in SD and have the alternator i need, email me!

i was playing this same game with my car about a month ago. i have a 95civic with a b16a1. so first i got a 95 teg alt. 90amp, cause i thought it would help power my sterio better. but it did not work. so to make along storey shot i got a 90 teg alt. 70amp. my origanal one is a 65 amp. so make sure you get the right year alternator for you engine it sounds like you need the same one i got. and i was able to gat mine out by going over the oil filter and squizine it through were the exaust pipe is. good luck.
loosen the master cyl. of the fire wall then gently move it out of the way (without breaking the brake lines.) then pull the alt. out and replace it. re install the master cyl.
sounds like a lot of work but really isn't. It is the quickest way i have found.

Removing the alternator is easy. Take the lowe splash shield off the drives side wheel well. Take the alternator off the bracket, then remove the two bolts holding the bracket to the block. With the bracket out manuver the alternator out trought the wheel well opening. Its tight but will come out this way. Gennerally I avoid messing with the brake system, only when absolutely necessary should you remove the master cylinder.
Well thanks for the info guys. I actually did something a little different. I dident think it could be done but i tried it and it worked. I unbolted the alternator which was bad (thanks kragen), then slid it across under the intake manifold. and squeezed the bastard right between the rear tranny mount and intake manifold. It was a very tight fit and was a pain in the ***, but i think it was worth not having to take anything off to get it out. But yeah, i ordered a new alternator from kragen, (paied a arm and a leg). But it will be in tomorow. I just wish i can fit the damn thing back in. Anyways, thanks for your help.
glad to hear you had that taken care of. I'm am in the same situation with my next door neighbor. He has the same car and setup as you with the same problem. *scratch* what are the chances.... anywya... good luck on your setup!

so what's the reasoning behind why the 95 teg alt wouldn't work? there both b series, did it not bolt up or did the plug not plug in? i wanna try a few different things on my car in the next cople of months, don't feel like spending 400+ for a custom high amp... wanna see what other honda alts will bolt up.
