Can You Change Total Mileage on an SI Gauge Cluster?

I remember surfing the net and reading that it was possible to change the total mileage on a cluster or swap it out with the one I am currently using. Do you guys know if this is possible? Or was I daydreaming...

It's possible and very easy. I bought a used cluster for my old 97 civic and rolled the mileage back on it to match my current mileage.

If I push it hard, I can shift the numbers? to the desired digits? And it will run and change smooth?

I spent a couple hours fondling and staring at my 99 DX cluster to see how you can change the mileage. and I figured out how to do it perfectly.
It's rather easy.. you just have to line certain things back up.

the numbers if you take out the odomiter peice.
Isn't this illegal? I know you can take it to some place and get it documented so it's legal, but what place... the DMV? Also, with a swap... do you change the numbers to the mileage of the motor or the mileage of the chasis? Thanks

No, he needs a picture of the back side of the actual odometer, not the backside of the cluster. I took my cluster apart and it looked far too complicated, a lot of small parts and gears. I just recorded the milage on my chassis, milage on the cluster, and milage on the engine swap.
some tips:
you will need very thin tweezers/needles...and some quiet hands...(serious)
when you start to roll back the #'s the gridlines should line up before putting the pieces together for your cluster...or else the numbers will not line up....trial and error basically

ok here ya go

take out the 4 screw here after you removed the cover, lense and all the stuff from the front of hte cluster. the speedo will now drop out

you now have 2 choices. 1 take your original speedo and put it in the new cluster or 2 roll you milage back. i prefer option 1
notice the gears?
the black ones controll your milage. you can sit there will a drill and a philips head bit for hours on end and roll the milage back useing theres gears. now to cover my ***. this is just educations information. not intended for use. i'm not liable

when I got my si cluster I called up a honda dealership and asked where they took spedo's to get recalibrated. whet to this shop and they looked at my car with the original spedo in it and wrote down the mileage. 2 hours and 20 bucks later I had my cluster back with the mileage that my cluster showed when I went to the shop to drop it off. the guy said the dmv didn't care if the cluster was off a couple miles. For those that say I should have done it myself look at it like this. I have proof of what was done and a recipt to show for it.

Question though, doesnt your ECU record how many KMS or Miles you have on the engine? Stock I mean? For example if you take the car to the dealership can they "plug it in" and find out the milage?

I would be really careful with the newer cars because i been told that they have 2 odometer in a car now. one in the cluster and another in the car that is digital. i was told by this at a dealer lot in buena park. so if you have a 2002 and up be careful. anyways, how much **** can i be in if i got caught rolling back my miles in my eg?
