Default "backseat" compartment lock

I recently purchased a 90 si crx. I have been fiddling around with everything in the car, but today I noticed the igition key does not lock the compartment in the back. It fits in but does not turn. Is the lock easily replaced or should I just not worry about it?

Open it up and then check to see if it turns. It that doesnt work then its becuase your ignition was changed and you have new keys. So the new key wont work with the old lock. You really dont need to worry about it anyway. Its not that importnat to have the think locked.

It is fairly easy to remove the lock. Then you could take it to a locksmith to have them rey key it or fix it to work w/ your ignition key.

heck you can rekey it yourself. just open it up, and its pretty obvious how to take it apart and more than likely you can rekey it with minimal tumblers with whatever matches. no one else really will ever know that its less than a full combination of tumblers.

btw, one key should open the doors, trunk, ignition and compartment. so if your "ignition" key is separate from your door key, then yeah, your ignition key has been changed.

btw, while youre under there, you can remove the latch that requires you to grab the handle and then pull up (which makes it impossible to pull up the cover from the drivers seat and facing forward) without removing the lock, so you can now access the compartment more eaisly and still keep the compartment locked when you want. should be obvious what i mean when you look under and take things apart.

Maybe you are using the valet key. The valet does not allow me to access the glove box, rear compartment or trunk in my gf car.
