Default anyone lengthen their shifter lever??

i am thinking of lengthening my shifter in my R to move the **** closer to the steering wheel so that the **** will be closer "to hand" when shifting while racing. i would do this in conjunctiuon with a short throw shifter so that the effective hand movement fore and aft will be the same as stock, even though the radius length would be increased, the arc length would stay the same. anyone done this? anyone have any thoughts on this?

I've done that in my civ

sorry don't have any pics

welded an extension and a sleeve around the extension(just to make sure).

works nice...its one of those thing that just make the car easier to drive on the track.

hmm. i would think that the short throw shifter pivides a shorter throw if used normally. then add about a 3-4 inch extension, and the arc would be similar to a stock throw. why would i need to change anything else? and why, when trying to lengthen the handle would i want to use 'jsut' a short shifter, especially since i am not actually looking for a shorter throw?

since you are going to be chopping up shifters anyway I would just get another stock shifter and cut that up

Lengthen below the pivot point to shorten the throw and lengthen above the pivot point to move the handle closer to the steering wheel.

Most of the cheap short throw shifters are aluminum so you might have a harder time welding that up nicely.

For what it's worth, I've broken 2 DC shifters.. I'm on my 3rd. They replace them for free, at least....

I have also been thinking about raising the height of my shifter.

My plan was use a spare stock shifter I have. I would cut it in half about an inch under the taper, and weld an extension in between the two halfs.
(I was also considering using a short throw shifter)

My plans have changed now, since I may have gotten a job that would allow me free use of an extensive machining shop (with free materials )
I would like to try my hand at making a shifter with shorter throw and stock or longer height. (I'm also going to see about making some adjustable A-arms for my civic)

Don't know what your budget is - but C's makes a great adjustable shifter (for height, throw and angle). All CNCd aluminum.

Try : http://www.jdmspecperf.com - they sell the C's (Si:z)

or

Godspeed: http://godspeed.hack.net/c's.html

C's makes a short shift kit and the multiadjustable one pictured above (special order in most cases).

JDM website is ????? (couldn't find it anywhere)

C's no longer offers the super duper adjustable shifter. Here the link to C's site:

I dont think it sold very well. Im thinking most people would for the looks. It would only appeal to a few.
A-sport also makes an adjustable shifter.

in japan at autobacs they sell these neat shift lever extenders. it's just like a section of lever, threaded on the top and bottom to fit your existing lever and ****. and it's got a kink in it to set it at an angle, and a nut to lock it at that angle. they're like $10. surely someone in the us is importing these and selling them for $15! sorry i can't help any more than that, but just keep checking around... maybe inline4 or something.

jeff
