difficulty on motor swaps, b16 compared to b18?
I am considering doing the swap for a b18c5 instead of a b16a1. I would love to get the c5(don't we all), but i think my money will only allow a b16. either way, how much more difficult is it to put a b18c5 in instead of a b16a1? What more or less wiring do you have to do, how hard is it to convert to obd2, hydraulic tranny, etc? I am pretty sure i am prepared for the b16 but i would like to know what is needed, extra for the b18c5. Any or as much help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Matt

As long as you get the c5 ecu, theres no converting you have to do. You will have to deal with 3 o2's instead of the two for the b16. There are ways to use a hydro tranny, but your best bet is using a cable.
For the easiest wiring, go with an older JDM B18C5 ECU. Although all B18C5 ECUs use OBDII-style plugs, the older JDM B18C5 ECUs are not OBDII. Rather, they are more similar to 1992-1995 style ECUs, but with OBDII style plugs. A wiring conversion to use this ECU would be no more difficult than converting the wires to use a 1992-1995 ECU. And given the fact that there is no off-the-shelf ITR chip for earlier ECUs (you would have to dyno tune something like a Hondata or Zdyne - $$$$$$$), you are better off using a stock ECU.
As for the transmission, the YS1 is perfect. Just keep in mind that you will also need the early B16A driver's side and rear transmission bracket. Otherwise, the swap is no different from a B16A1 swap.

Installation is identical to the b16 right? Just the wiring that is differemt? Would i have to take each wire from my stock plugs and install them correctly into the correct obd2 style plug? Or what would i have to do? Where could i get a jdm b18c5 ecu, did it come out of integra r? what year? can i use like an apexi vtec controller? What can i use on this ecu? more info the better. As for the engine mounts the hasport mounts will work correctly all the way around right, i would just need the integra rear bracket to the mount?
Thanks,
Matt
