Prelude Turboing Day 1: Got the intercooler in.......
Fits perfect behind the bigmouth bumper and it's hard as heck to see unless you're looking for it.....I'll post pics up in the next couple of days and keep updating this thread....I expect to be finished by next wednesday with everything....next 2 days we're making IC piping, 2 days after that we're cutting and rewelding my SFP manifold, monday we're putting it all together and making the downpipe, tuesday we're finishing the downpipe and exhaust, and wednesday we're boosting and tuning on race gas.....
Once everything is together, I'm taking it apart again to ceramic coat the manifold and powdercoat the IC pipes and the valve cover.....
FYI: I've come to the conclusion that the H22 SFP manifold has major fitment issues because it was designed for use with a 5 bolt exhaust housing, and I'm using a 4 bolt one (like everyone should
).....with a 5 bolt housing, the compressor shouldn't have any problems at all clearing the motor mount with minor trimming......

Day 2: Why I'm not a welder!
We made the IC piping from TB to fender, fender to IC, and IC to other fender.....we'll be bringing the IC piping up from the driver side fender through the hole that the washer fluid fill neck used to go through, then around to the turbo compressor outlet. We then tried to weld the IC piping ourselves with a crappy MIG, only to get tons of leaks!!! Screw that! So today I'm gonna take the pipes somewhere to have them welded good.....

Finally got some pics! Spend last night fitting the manifold and turbo and redoing some of the IC piping, but we had to call it a night early because my partner and I both wanted to, uh, spend some quality time with our ladies

ok i got 2 questions:
1. Can u post some pics of how u bolted the intercooler up to your car?
2. How much was your manifold?

2. $450, and supposedly that was a discounted price from SFP for our shop since we've bought like 5 manifolds from them.....not worth it at all in my opinion. The manifold could have been designed WAY better, and the welds are hardly professional.....their D, B, and DSM manifolds are way nicer than their H22 ones are, maybe they hired children to weld for them that day?

Looking great Bri! Did you end up using the IC specs I sent you? Just the other day I was looking at mine, and I don't know if I mentioned placement of the endtank inlets/outlets but I noticed mine were placed higher than just in the middle of the endtank.
I came to the conclusion that each IC is different, and will require its own modifications to fit.
What kind of mig welder were you using?(hopefully, not what I have, hehe)

dude your intercooler looks awesome!! i havent started with my install yet, cant wait to get started... looks great man, nice set up... (glad to see you found a way of working around the whole SFP thing, i remember your post from before regarding their mani... it was the reason why i chose to go with MaxRev.. and not SFP..)
Thanks guys!!
Apexii - Yeah, the core is the same one you're using
It fits absolutely perfectly, I just had to cut out the bottom back half of the bumber guard and the little "fin" on the bottom of it because it was blocking the top IC row.....I'm just using the top and middle-bottom brackets for now to hold it on and it's very secure, so I didn't bother putting bolts through the tabs on the bottom-sides of the IC....I'll take more/better pics tonight at the shop.....how's your motor and stuff coming along?
LordVtec - The SFP manifold is a POS, but it looks like we're not going to be able to cut and reweld the flange on it and I'm sure as hell not sending it back to SFP so they can take another 3 months to make me a different one, so we're going to use it as-is, meaning I'm gonna lose half of the front motor mount and one of the bolts......and it'll never fit a bigger compressor housing than the regular t04e, so if I ever get a ball bearing garrett I'll need a new manifold....sucks! Let me know how the maxrev is and take some pics
That might be my next manifold for a new turbo
FYI if people are interested, I might be able to get a groupbuy on IC's exactly like mine, and they'll probably be like $650-700 each.....problem is, our intercooler/radiator guys take FOREVER, so it'd probably be 3 months after everything is finalized to get the IC's.......

Oh forgot about the MIG
It was some pile of crap $500 MIG that my partner bought...I'll get the model number tonight.....it keeps having problems feeding the wire and the neck keeps getting loose after welding a little, not to mention we totally suck at welding anyways
We're just tack welding everything and one of our customers (who has a machine shop and mig/tig/arcwelding machines at his house) is going to TIG weld everything (IC piping, exhaust from kteller8, and downpipe).......

I'll be sure to post some pics of the max rev as soon as it gets in.. it was supposed to be here on the 2nd but ran into some difficulties apparently... anyhow, i will keep ya posted..
Ugh, it's early morning, I'm tired and cranky and I can't tell what is more painful/annoying: All the little metal shards in my arms and hands, or the burns from holding various pipes while they got welded...bleh!
Anyways, we bolted everything up, tack welded the downpipe, ground the heck out of the front motor mount and some of the block......here are more pics....I tried to get some of the top IC mount, but I couldn't get the camera to take a good pic, but there are some of the bottom mounts..
Everything is getting welded up this weekend, so once it's done I'll take pictures of the downpipe and IC piping.....
The welder we are using is a Clarke Weld 130EN or soemthing like that....POS!!
Enjoy!

Well, spent Saturday welding everything up at a customers house (TIG)....I think I burned the right side of my face with UV from the welder because I was holding stuff while he was welding.....I'm a dumbass for that!!!! So now my right eye and eyelid and stuff hurts like a m&*%f(&*%^er...owell right
Downpipe looks OK, we had a bitch of a time fitting it and had a bunch of big gaps, so we had to patch it in 2 places to make it weld up good.....IC piping looks pretty good, I'll be throwing up some pics in the next couple of hours
I'm planning to paint everything (DP, IC piping, and manifold) with VHT Flameproof silver paint, but nobody in town carries it so I have to call summit and have it overnighted......

Looking good! That DP is coming along nicely. I don't think i'll be able to fit a 3" with a 5-bolt housing, what do you think? My gameplan is to use a 2.5-3" reducer and deal with that.
When you guys were welding, did you have an autodarkening helmut? I don't have one, and it's a royal PITA welding w/o one; not to mention a not-so-clean job. I am going to bite the bullet soon and get one.
ps, I hope my radiator look as nice installed as yours

Apexii - Nope, it wasn't an autodarkening helmet.....I think the lens tint was something like an 11 or 12, but I don't know much about welding......about the downpipe, are you going to have AC? Without AC, I think a 3 inch would be no problem, but with AC you'd need to do the first bend 2.5 inch and then flare to 3 inch right after the bend (the problem is that the 2.5 bend barely clears one of the bolts on the AC compressor bracket....technically you might be able to do a 3 inch with AC if you took off the bracket and cut out that section of it but I dunno)....and why are you running a 5 bolt housing? 4 bolts supposedly flow a ton better (according to our turbo suppliers).....
Also, I can get intercoolers just like mine made and shipped in the states for $700 and delivery takes 4 weeks from the time I get the money if anyone is interested.....
There will be more pics up tonight or tomorrow of stuff, I'm heading to the shop right now to get working.....

VIS Xtreme GT Hood
Tonight's gonna be a big night.......might even have her up and running!!
BTW, got in the exhaust from kteller and it looks GREAT! Now I just need to find a wastgate dump flange somewhere today

I'm soooooooooooooooooooooo tired.....
Got the manifold, turbo, wastegate, IC, IC piping, oil in lines all on the car....
Tomorrow, we have to put the oil pan back on, hook up the oil return, bolt up the DP, bolt up the exhaust, put on the wastegate dump tube, and tune
I'm so excited that I can't really go to bed....lol....we're also tuning a customer car as soon as mine is finished that should be a lot of fun (GST with all kinds of stuff on an AEM we intalled/tuned).....last time we tuned it for 18 lbs on pump gas...now we're gonna tune it for 25 lbs on race gas...wooha! bake those tires
Brian
P.S. TIG welders are the best things ever. Even when you hate them and yourself because you're an idiot and burned your eyeball
P.S.S. More pics up soon.....IC piping looks good, and it's not even powdercoated yet!
