my car runs find on Mobile 1 Super Syn. I check my oil regularly, and i have yet to get to the point where I actually need to put more oil in my car. I dont know much about the Castrol Syn. Oil, hopefully someone will help you out.
yes if you are burning that much oil, try 10w-30 now and see if it still happens. I use castrol gtx because I'm cheap right now and I have no problems. I have 40,XXX miles also ... BTW, i'm still using 5w-30 with no noticable oil burning yet.

I used mobil 1.......burned a quart easily. I went back to conventional oil...castrol GTX 5 30.............no oil loss, not even after days of hard driving
ive also used mobil 1 and I had to add some oil every 500miles. Ended up bieng my piston rings. You should check your piston rings, but first switch oil and if the problem is still there, its your rings
Why not just mix oils? Use 2 qts of Mobil full syn and then 2 qts of normal Mobil. Works well together. I do this for my daily driver to have the benefit of both.
Note that the "blends" are sometimes only 10% syn.

I was told with this 0W-40 Oil not to mix-it with ANYTHING ELSE, they me a couple of litres in a spare container for top-ups.
I CHECK MY OIL EVERY 2 or 3 TANKS of FUEL. Every 1000-1500kms- No suprises.
I've been running 0W-40 Mobil 1 Super Synth since 10,000kms. Its was run on Good dino Oil for the 10,000 (2 x changes, 1st-2,000kms 2nd-5,000kms ) 3rd change -10,000kms 0W-40. I check the Oil regularly, but never needs any, unless I'm at the track. VTEC All Day and it only used a tiny amount (Less than 100ml).
Now it's got just over 55,000kms and still going Strong.
Not all motors are the same, Not all car are well run-in. That's good reason to get a car brand new and run-it-in the way you want. It's not as important with modern engines. But just look at this thread, If All ITR's were the same, You guys could use thin Super Synth as well.
Why do Car Manufacturers now extend Oil change periods, while still using oil that's supposed to be changed after 5,000kms, being left in for sometimes 20,000Kms. The result - A fogged-out motor way before time. Just to make the car seem cheaper to service. Big deal - Your up for a new car sooner - That's Why!!
Just my 2c - Later.

Why's everyone burning oil? I drive 3,000 mile every oil change and the stick is still at the same place.
I use Mobil 1 Super Syn 5W30.

I have seen this more times then I would like to Plus my mechanic (3 time certified master tech bla bla bla) has shown it to me over 50 times mostly ricer stunners who dont understand that u must change filter. NOT to call anybody on hear a stunna but I have scene a couple of HT'ers with filters that were more black then red
. If it does not make sence then try this take off your k&n filter sometime hold it up to the sun and look inside and you will see alot of little pin like holes that u see the sun light perfectly threw so if you can see threw it then surely dirt can come threw ( I guess that is how they flwo 50% more air
) I personaly run a COMPTECH filter cause it is a performance tipe but has a hell of alot more filter element than any K&N and I will give up the 1hp for longerlasting motorJUST MY .02

shi - used up .5 qts in 4K miles with 5w30 mobil1, but haven't burnt any since switching to 10w30.
I've never had a problem with it
