Default Learn something everyday....

I received a '97 R brochure on Monday that I bought from eBay and found this in the Specifications column....

VTEC Crossover 5700/5400 rpm (wide open throttle)
5900/5600 rpm (other)

Why the difference in crossover? Does the ECU read the engine rpm and determine the crossover? If this has been discussed before, just flame or ban me, since I did not 'search' this.

Where does it say it? I have the 98 and 2000 brochures in front of me and I have a 97, 98 and 2000 framed at home I could look at.

My brochure is tri-fold with a nice pic of a '97 in motion like a poster if you fold it out, but the Specifications are on the back if it is all folded up or the center of the back page if folded out.

Yup, got one or two of those 1997s and one of the 1998s. They do make great posters...

Hmm...that's crazy. I'll have to check my brochures also. I could've swore the crossover for the '00 ITR is 5800 RPM. It does LOOK like 6k RPM when you're driving because the damn tachs are off.

"titanium shift ****" yeah right. LOL

Good info Aaron. I'm suprised there hasn't been more replies. I guess it shows what's happened to this forum.

Back to the orginal question.... Yes it does change depending on the throttle position. I used to have an led that would light up when I hit VTEC and on long trips i'd **** around with it to see how fast i could get in 5th before VTEC went on. If i got on the gas I would be able to get say 95mph, where as if I slowly got on the trottle, I could get almost 105mph. Good way to save gas

Craig - Who does not have one on the itr

I don't think so. It's aluminum for sure.

It's aluminum, but I think somewhere they mention a "titanium-look" or "titanium-finish."

Is that $200+ **** Honda sells *really* titanium?

VTEC Crossover 5700/5400 rpm (wide open throttle)

What does that mean? I mean, why does it give two different numbers for the VTEC crossover point at WOT? When is it 5700 and when is it 5400?
On/off, I think. Engages at 5700 on the way up and disengages at 5400 on the way down.

That is what I think, too.

Didn't know that vtec xover was raised when not on full throttle. Interesting.
