Thanks to my lovely friend Brian I got the Greddy Oil Catch for xmas, he gave it to me last night while we were in a drunken stooper at our New-Years Eve party. Decided to install it this morning, took a few pics of the finished result. The kit is pretty complete, except for the fact that Greddy cheaped out on the hose, they barely give you enough to make one run from the intake to the catch can. Luckily Home Depot carries hose that is close to the stuff greddy gives you, its called vinyl wrapped hose. I also added a L adapter to avoid any kinks coming off of the valve cover, because of the place i chose to mount the catch can. I kind of ghetto rigged the mounting bracket out of an ECU bracket my roomate had laying around, you really cant see it but it works nonetheless.

If anyone doesnt know what it does, its for seperating any blowby that would normally come from the valve cover so it does not enter the intake tube. Cuts down on sludge in the intake manifold, and also helps from getting your throttle body gummed up over time. And yes it does add a touch of bling to the engine bay

kick ***...and you'll know when its working i suppose since the tubing is clear. Great work
p.s. do you have to clean it out at all, if so when?

very nice. and the description of what it does helps a lot too, for people like myself that are still learning the ins and outs of cars.
thats a nice catch can, but you have it installed wrong, its supposed to connect in between the PCV vavle and the IM, in your pic that would be the center vacuum hose(i think) NOT in between the valve cover breather and the intake pipe..

This catch can was designed for the application i am using it in. The endyn one which you speak of actually improves upon the stock PCV system. Each system has its benefits. So no, it is not installed incorrectly.

Adding a link to Road Race Engineering's website to detail how the Greddy catch can is installed vs how the endyn catch can is installed:

I looked at my old IM i had lying around (shouldn't we all have a spare one?) and that thing was completely black on the inside, except cylinder 1, it certainly didn't create a large blockage, i'd say much less than 1 mm, but the catch can looks like a good idea...heres a homemade one...it runs about 75 bucks, http://www.geocities.com/bretq/DIY_O...tructions.html
OK so then if there are 2 different types of catch cans couldnt you like use a plastic "T" and then splice that in and run one catch can for both uses? Like run one of each of the lines how this one is installed and then run the other set of lines to like someone posted above (through the PCV valve and such)?
You said it all in your avator message! Also Roadrace Engineering is located in Ca. and has about as much knowledge as you. It is installed incorrectly, air travels from the intake to the valve cover.

Yes, people really do need to search "PCV" on this site. The unit is installed incorrectly. The crankcase is slightly pressurized, the PCV "hose" uses IM vaccum to evacuate crankcase vapors from the engine. The valve cover "breather" equalizes the pressure. As the unit is installed currently, you are filtering fresh air.
You are wrong; it is a portion of your crank case breather, PCV system. Look at the flow diagrams in your shop manual.
Dont know how well this will show up but here's a pic of the PCV system for a 1.6 but the same concept applies. You can see that it is fresh air that goes into the valve cover so how he has it hooked it would filter fresh air into the valve cover from his intake.

Ok thanks for the help guys, ill fix it this weekend. I was just following the instructions that Greddy put in the box, for this particular application. Mabye someone should let them know that they are sending out wrong instructions with their products?

I'm glad the group here figured out that the instructions that came with the GReddy Kit were incorrect. I found it amazing that no one commented on why this is really done. In T.O.O's instructions he states you can increase boost or compression. Oil has a terribly low octane rating, and anything you can do to keep it out of the intake is a very good idea.
