Default Comptech Sway/Tie bar Combo

Is it really worth it?

Are they any cheaper alternatives?

I would like feedback from all those who might have bought and installed the Comptech combo!!

It is nice. If you don't want to spend as much money Suspension Techniques also makes a sway/tie combo although not to the same spiffyness level as the Comptech. It does run about $120 cheaper though.

i have it, and really like it. you can just get a factory Integra Type-R bar, get the beaks or bsq mounting kit, and have a good solution. but the comptech tie bar provides a bulletproof mounting platform for the sway bar, which is adjustable. you're intended use for the car is an important consideration. if you just plan to drive on the street, then i'd say get the type-r bar. if you plan to do a lot of autocrosses, high speed driving schools or track days, then the comptech is probably worth it, since you have some control over the rear end.

The Comptech Sway/Tie bar Combo costs approximately $389 (price from tornactive.com)

The alternatives?
*One example : (prices also from tornactive.com)
Beaks kit $188-comes with ITR sway bar and all mounting accessories
Beaks upgrade kit $18 (may be required for some lower tie bars including Benen)
Benen lower tie bar $127
Total $333

What's included in the Comptech Sway/Tie bar combo that isn't included in the alternative mentioned above? Adjustable swaybar endlinks and a combo (kit) that comes complete with all the parts from one source.

*Note that this is just one example of an alternative to the Comptech sway/tie bar combo. Other alternatives such as buying parts direct, a BSQ kit, purchasing the ITR sway bar from AHmotor or Carland Acura may cost a lot less $$$ (under $300 easy).

Is it worth it? You'll have to decide that. I like the Comptech Sway/Tie bar combo, but for me, I couldn't justify the cost. I went with the Beaks kit.

As mentioned another alternative would be to Type-R rear swaybar and all the misc. parts from from http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.net for ~$86 shipped (see receipt below). You can then order my Type-R rear swaybar mounting/reinforcement kit (aka. BSQ mounting kit - http://www.geocities.com/bretq/mounting_kit.html ) for $20 shipped. So you are looking at a total cost of ~$106 for the swaybar. If you also want a rear lower tie bar you could use the Benen bar for $127. So the combination of the Type-R rear swaybar w/BSQ mounting kit and the Benen tie bar you are looking at a total cost of ~$233. So you are looking at a savings of ~$156 when compared to the Comptech tiebar/swaybar combo. Now the only question is, is the Comptech setup worth the additional $156 (ie. will you notice enough $156 difference?) ?

The only advantage to the Comptech setup is the ability to adjust the swaybar. From what I have read, the middle ('medium') setting on the Comptech is equivalant to a 22mm swaybar (same as the Type-R rear swaybar). Also, the 'soft' and 'hard' settings are only %5 difference, so the adjustablity range is very subtle.

Another alternative is to buy only the tiebar from Comptech for $175 and pair it with the standard type-R swaybar. You can read about this at my site in the "performance" section.

that's interesting. when i was exchanging e-mails with comptech last year, they didn't seem willing to sell me the tie bar from the kit alone. the stand alone tie-bar on the site is different, and doesn't have the mounting point for the sway bar. so i ended up getting the combo from diablo. however you managed to do it, congrats. aside from the adjustability (mine might be eq. to a 23mm bar on the stiffer setting), you have the same solution for about $130 less.

I just called them up on the phone and talked them into selling me the tiebar by itself. The guy was trying to tell me that it's designed for their swaybar, but finally let me buy it by itself with the warning that they wouldn't take it back if it didn't work with my type-R bar since they had never tried that.
