Default z6 piston

Im building a z6 delslow motor for my 89 civic hatch i was planning to buy JE pistons and eagle rods, I have been reading and I have always known people used ls rods in there d series motor's i am only running all motor and i plan to get all the compression i can get. Would i be better off to use ls rods ? I am autocrossing it thats why im building the sohc. I will be useing a y8 head gasket and im waiting on doing the head for a wile. I think i will be going with a y8 head but im going to be going with the z6 head at first also i will prob be useing the obd 0 teg ecu and a vafc. Can anyone offer any info on my setup?? Am i better off useing ls rods. Im not planing on running more than 200 hp when im done im not gona be an all out dragster i just wana have some power wile autocrossing!..

I my SOHC!

I'm using LS rods, but for boost (eventually).

I'm sure it'll help if you're looking for a high compression motor. Its a much cheaper route than Eagle and Crower. They should take all the N/A high compression that you can throw at it.

i hear lots of people use shot peened stock rods for all motor d16's,

to get the most out of the compression lookinto teh civic GX pistons and rods,

teh GX will give you the highest compression, and i think the rods are basically LS rods. I only know what i have told you so you are gonna have ot do soem research. I went the otehr way dn am using LS rods with SRP pistons for boost.

GX?

I've heard of bumping up the comression with DX pistions.

what kind of machine work is required to get ls pistons in, or do they just bolt right in?

Why don't you use ZC pistons, they'll yield a higher compression ratio because they're domed.

Z6 are domed also... I am pretty sure.

but z6 pistons on a mini with a z6 head will make the same compression, I am doing one myself, here is the cheapest way, get 86-87 teg rods d16a1, they are 2x stronger than the a6's and the pistons off that same motor i think add higher compression, but the best oem piston is the zc, but if u cant get zc go with the 86-87 ones, now if u get a 88-89 teg those are just as good as the d16a6. But if your really going all motor or something just go with after market.

Or, get some B16 rods and have them fit to your block. yessss... they work.

yeah how are you suposed to hold the power??

the key is the head the door is the bottom end

get some crower rods..if they make them yet for sohc...there like $600 a set but with those rods and arp bolts..youll be safe for any rpm
as will a set of $340 eagle rods

and z6 pistons are dished

true true but i bet even if he managed to machine his head so it increased his hp by even something arounnd 60hp(which i think is unlikely if hes on a budget) his stock rods and would till be sufficient. Im sure once he increased his compression is when it would matter most. So i suppose going about it either way would be good, but to see the most gains i'd go with improving the head.

i really dont wana spend 300 bucks if its not nessary i think im going to have a set of ls rods shot peened i can have thoes ready to go for under 100 vs 300
i will be running high compression thats one thing i know for shure and a year or less when i get out of school i will be doing the whole head (right) i dont have the money for the head work right now are ls rods safe up to 8,500 rpm? and are they safe up to 200hp??

if peened, and with rod bolts it should be ok but then again thats only what i've read. I got some peened and bolted and im told by several shops they are good too 9k easy. And these are people who are backing their work

stock honda rods (b series) usually break at 400-500hp if they're in good condition to start with. this was tested in sport compact in reference to the honda vs ecotec battle.

honda snapped its rods @ 400-500hp boosted (dont remember exactly)
im sure a d series would be fine at least up to 300hp. use arp connecting bolts.

yeah unless you're running boost over 14psi I don't think you'd need to change rods. just my thoughts.

pounds per square inch means nothing. its a measurement of air pressure only. does not correlate to strain on a motor or hp/trq figures.

getting LS rods to work isnt as cheap as you think, yes you save some money, but it all depends on what yoiu want to do in the end. If you get tehm shot peened also, with arp bolts. I think you are looking at the same price as eagle rods.

hindsight is 20/20 if you still want some LS rods that are machined for d16 give me message and how much you are willign to pay.

i got them already 50 bucks and i bet the bolts are 15-20$ im guessing and i would say the shot peening is about 50 so there i have 115$ vs 300 sounds like a deal to me!

did you figure in rebushing the small end? and machineing the large end to make it thinner?

then not mention you have to use a floatign wrist pin set up.

i just picked up some stuff today:

felpro gasket set will be in in 1 week

integrs ls rods

clevite 77 thrust washer set # tw-473 s

arp connecting rod studs # 208-6001
(they say honda 1.2l to 1.6l 8mm RBK he said they didnt have a listing for 1.8 liter and also said there was no listing for acura so i am going to make shure they will work

d16y8 head gasket

rod bearings will be in tomorrow

federal mogul main bearings # 7102 M

thats it so far still havnt figured out pistons i will be takeing my block to be worked soon and i have no idea what all i should have dont to it any sugestions??
i will be haveing the crank knife edged what specs should i have the cilinder walls done to? any info on this would be appriceated
