It's not horribly loud at cruising, but it may get on your nerves a bit if you drive the car in traffic alot. Turbo will spool up a tad faster as well. I have my wastegate dump exiting through a custom plate and pipe i made coming through the right side of the front bumper. Very similiar to the way most race cars have it setup.

Re: anyone runing a open down pipe? (boostaholic)
thats exactly what im lookn for..exiting out of the front area...you would need some sor t of pipe to guide the actual downpipe through the bumper i would suppose..so it wouldnt melt the metal..? kinda like the jotech car has it on passenger lower front.

It depends where you live and lots of other things. Depending on what turbo and engine you have this might not be a good idea. When i completed my turbo project my down pipe was ran wide open because i don't have a welder at my house. Besides it being hellatiously loud the turbo wouldn't spool for ****.
I called up turbo performance and they said that although running with an open downpipe usually frees up the spool there are also times when you are not creating enough back pressure and the turbo will have a hard time spooling.(I would start to spool at about 5000rpm )
The next day i went to midas and what do ya know after every thing was welded up I was able to be at full boost below 3000rpm

i am currently running an open DP and i have to agree with everyone else, it's loud and very smelly! the good points are that i find the turbo spools quicker and that no one tries to call you out to race on the freeway . i would recommend it as long as you can handle the sound and the stares you will get from old ladies in their oldsmobiles.

well if i route it like mentioned before, towards side fender, i think i would avoid a lot of the smell associated w/ it bein in bay right? '
all sounds good.

think that might slove your problem just remove the plastic fender lining and that should exit it out real nice if you run the DP about the route to in front of the drivers side front bumber side

I am a bad person
Re: anyone runing a open down pipe? (roby)
I have an open dp but its not my daily driver. I do drive it on the street a couple days a week though. mine is side exit but not out of the bumper i just have a 45 angle on it and have it facing down towards the driver front tire. it sounds good to me and the noise doesnt bother me either. It will attract a lot more attention escpecially from cops.

Re: anyone runing a open down pipe? (integra-modder)
there was a post about this in the tech forum i think, maybe it was this forum i'm not sure but i'm wondering if these people who are running the wg dump tube out the bumper are experiencing any boost creep problems at high speed. All that air rushing past the dump tube exit may make the exhaust gases have to fight their way out instead of just casually flowing out. Have you ever noticed the huge exhaust pipes on semi-trucks? it's cut at an angle just for this purpose. so my questions is: Is anybody running this setup experiencing boost creeep problems? and my possible solution is: Make an angular cut in it slanting from the side facing the front of the car down to the back side of the dump tube.

what kind of plates are these on the outside of the piping? look like kickpanels of a door or something..

very nice! pics of the engine bay would be cool.
edit: that is the wastegate dump is it not, or is it the downpipe?
