Default Preliminary Review: JimFab Motor Mounts

UPS man delivered these yesterday, so I gave 'em a whirl today.

JimFab motor mounts - 2 lower torque mounts and rear mount. I ordered them with the optional "extra stiff" race bushings and crossed my fingers.

The quality appears to be excellent. Even better- I got all three mounts for $100 shipped! The fit was perfect on the drivers side, and the passenger side only required a ratchet handle to pry into place.

I have not driven on them yet, but...

I go to start the car.. *crank crank crank* x 10. I noticed two things:

1) I could feel every turn of the starter like it was connected to my seat instead of the motor.

2) The car did not start. Oh wait, this might be due to the fact that the ECU is uplugged and laying on the floor next to me... I'm in the middle of installing a Rev/Speed meter and haven't finished.

I plugged in the ECU and tried again.... engine fires. This is going to be fun!

The cabin definetly vibrates more, but it doesn't bother me. This is a cold motor idling ~1500 rpm. Blipping the throttle results in instant response and no "jerk" associated with the transfer of engine mass which now undetectable.
I can't wait to drive this bia. Most likely tomorrow.

I will install the rear mount when the tranny comes out later this winter.

I was worried about the "extra stiff" bushings at first (a little), after I read a post where someone returned their 'normal[ JimFab mounts because trhey couldn't stand the vibration. I am happy so far.

...Complete review coming soon.

Thanks-

Jim @ Jimfab for prompt answers to all of my questions

What a deal!
I had Steve install my Mugen mounts w/ES inserts.
I wonder if I should silicone the inserts into the Mugen engine mounts.

In a car you drag race with or take to the track often with, they are great. In a daily driver where you will be sitting in traffic and such, i'd pass. I had mounts like that in my old 89 hatch with built GSR motor and it was fun around town. However i would never want to drive that crap in traffic. The whole freaking car vibrated because of the mounts. Also i can see after a long time of use it perhaps having an effect on the structural integrity of the car. I'm not a mechanical engineer, but strong vibrations like that do take their toll on your car after a while.

I really don't mind the vibration, except when something in my glove box is rattling.

Since everyone is talking about mounts.....I've been running the Hasport motor and tranny mounts for about 2 weeks now. Stiffest compound uerethane(sp?) they offer. The car shakes at idle but not that bad.....you feel like your foot is directly connected to the motor since the engine has no movement what so ever, responsiveness and acceleration are much better and wheel hop during hard acceleration is gone. If you can deal with the vibration noises and checking of your interior screws (loctite them) due to vibrating them loose it is a definite worth while mod. Installation on the rear mount is a pain in the a$$ though.

Those are some nice sturdy mounts. I'm running ES motor mount inserts(the rear mount is still waiting to be installed), and they definately invoked a noticeable vibration in the cabin, even without the rear mount. I can only imagine the NVH on those mounts. Anyway, nice mounts

Ruffruff. Real rough. It is loud as hell and I love it. As expected. The car feels great.

I don't think they are on the website, at least not pictures, but email Jim, I know he makes them.

Hmmm....I tried to start my R motor when I brought it home, but I hadn't installed it yet!

Nice, colorful write up Ed.
