Ground Control Coilovers/Koni Yellows
I have decided to do Ground Control Coilovers and Koni Yellows on my R. I just want to know a few things if anyone could help me out ...
I do not have enough money to get the full suspension setup right now.. I just want to have a lower stance. Would it be alright to just ge the Ground Control Coilover setup for now and get the Koni's later?
What setting do I want to Ground Controls on if I have not upgraded the shocks yet to Koni (I would like a drop like the H&R sports offer, is that possible to have before I get the Koni shocks?)
What is the exact name of the Ground Control kit i want?
What is the Ground Control main website?
Thanks,
Jon

To make part of what i said simpler....
GC's = 1.3 drop in back, 1.5 drop in front
H&R sport springs = 1.3 drop in back, 1.5 drop in front
I have heard the H&Rs will wear the stock shocks in +-2 years... I want to know if I lower the car the same ammount with the GC's, will it last just about as long? How do the spring rates differ? Input?
Thanks!

I used to know the H&R spring rate, but I can't seem to find it. As for the GCs, when your order them, you should order custom spring rates, that's what everyone does. Get springs rates to match your shocks and to the usage you'd need.
If you get spring rates to accomodate the damping characteristics of a stock shock you still have a potential problem with bottoming out, especially if your lowered past 1.5 inches.
Honestly, you can't have higher spring rates without the proper damper to control it.

Can someone give me some advice. I will eventually have 17x7.5 inch wheels (most likely SSR competitions)....and I would like to have a clean looking drop (my guess is the H&R drop would be perfect (just a guess), which is 1.5 front/1.3 back.

What's the worse that happens? you blow the shock shocks? who cares. What's your budget currently allow for? ($ amount)
You want to sell those stock springs?
You want to sell those stock springs?
You should buy your springs and shocks at the same time.
What is it, exactly, that you are trying to accomplish? What events do you drive that you need a different suspension?
You're making me nervous.

why spend the money on koni's if you are on such a limited budget. Also George may be able to clarify but the shock rebound/compression adjustment on the rear shock of a Koni is not easily changed. I believe it is on the bottom and the shock may have to come out.
This would lead me away from Koni for the price.

...... first of all, i want a lower stance. I am happy with how much the H&R Sports lower the car.... the reason I am looking into getting shocks later is for 2 reasons:
1. The stock ones are gonna wear out over time
2. It would be nice to be able to setup my suspension for drag launching

I'm not sure about the ITR shocks, but I know with my EK the Koni coilover sleeves from GC are different from the ones used with factory or other aftermarket shocks.

i would recommend the H&R sport with upgraded shocks though stock shocks
work fine. My stock shocks have over 110K miles on them and they are working
fine with the H&Rs. I like KONIs personally, but i would recommend you get the
rears converted to externally adjustable like the ones I have are.

Well, there ya go. An expert answer from someone who's done enough drag racing that you can take him at his word.
Remember, I was road racing before you even had an ITR.
Is there a quick answer for how much does that cost?
Steve: Was he really slamming you? You have done a lot of drag racing no? I didn't read "Steve's done a lot of drag racing but no road racing so you can take him at his word" in George's post..
BTW, you missed someone who really did accuse you of being nothing but a drag ***** in another thread

Didnt mean to be an ***, but its one of those things that annoy me.
Man, i miss those days when i was unemployed and had money to spend.
Ironic part is I road raced more before I got the ITR.

On topic for the poster.
I would just keep stock. If all you want is the lowered stance then just go with the off the shelf GC's. The problem with wanting to add shocks down the road, you will need different sleeves and adapters to use GC's with Konis or bilsteins. You are going to end up having to buy those parts to make the setup work.
Why not just cut your stock springs, that is what Steeeevie did.
