Default Experience With Remote Pager Alarms

I just got a new car and it does not have an alarm. It’s one of my priorities to get a nice alarm. I’m wondering what you guys think of alarms with remote pagers. I know that the pagers will make me feel more comfortable, but are they useful. I don’t have much knowledge about car alarms so I apologize for sounding uneducated on this matter. I’ve read good things about the distance you have with the Compustar 2WSS-AS. The pager on this alarm seems helpful. Others though, do not have the same reception. I guess it’s somewhat like cell phone companies. I want to avoid getting another Cingular if you know what I mean . Any comments on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

not sure about compustar, we dont have them around here, I have heard good things about DEI's new (2002) pager transponders. The older ones sucked.
try researching cliffords, sidewinders, pythons, or vipers. I am getting an alarm for christmas, and it will be a clifford.

Sounds awesome, but I have a few questions...

1. So, do these sort of act like those 2-way FRS radios?
2. Since DEI is the parent company of Clifford, do you think it'll work with an Intelleguard series alarm?
3. Where'd you get it?
4. How much is it?

I'm trying to convince someone to get this instead of remote start.

Thanks,
Alex.

I have a Clifford alarm w/ pager and I think it is useful.. when I'm parked at work my car is close enough/w/in range of the pager.. but I can't always be looking out the window or going outside to see if my car is OK.. so when I'm at my desk it helps me be at ease (kind of) that my pager is w/in range and if my car is messed w/ I'll be alerted... the bad thing is that a couple of my co-workers know I have it.. and they know how crazy I get over my car.. so they'll go and kick the tire or whatever just to see me run out to the lot

when I am home.. the garage is also w/in range from my bedroom so thats good as the pager will go off if someone breaks into the garage and tries to take the car at night... so I'd say its a good thing to have..

I also have the alarm along w/ a club, autolock, manual kill switches, hood locks, and also the car is parked in my garage which is locked at night.. in addition our house has armed security/patrol where if theres a break in the alarm company is notified and they send people out.. then theres also me upstairs that would be alerted by either the pager or the alarm console..

I should have one of my friends set off my alarm once while I'm in a big mall... I haven't had my pager go off while in the mall and when disarming the alarm.. it doesn't do the extra chirps telling me the alarm went off.. so I don't know about far range...

I’d like to thank all of you for replying. I’ll do some research on the ones you suggested Incubus. If you like you’re very happy with alarm 95CivicEx, I’ll look at that one. It sounds like you’re setup GSRaCeRbOI. You have all kinds of security. Thanks for the offer Bbasso. As soon as I can IM people, I’ll send you a message if I have a question. I suppose I have to put up a few posts before I may send IMs. It sounds like the pagers make you feel very comfortable. I’m pretty sure that the alarm I’ll get will have a pager. Now if I could only get Cingular to work as well.

I have not heard of the Aladdin 2000. Since GSRaCeRbOI says there are some posts that say poor things about it, I’ll search for them. Thanks for the input.

I have the new Clifford Matrix RS3 and I have never had a problem with it.. It even works well on a military base. What I mean by that is with all the radar jammers and stuff they use.. Normally pagers/remotes don't work..

The pager looks like this

I looked into the Clifford Matrix RS3. It looks like a cool alarm. I have not been able to find the range for the pager. I did look into what looked like a German site from the picture you posted. I don’t know German but I looked for any numbers that might resemble distance. Maybe it is not on the list of features on that site. Do you happen to know the range? Thanks for your suggestion.

It seems that you have a small quest to discourage anyone from getting an Aladdin 2000 GSRaCeRbOI . If that’s the case, you have won me over. I don’t think I’ll be getting that alarm anytime soon. The range of this alarm is also unknown to me. I have no idea why none of the sites that sell it, do not post the range. It seems that most companies do not give information regarding the range .

its not a personal quest or anything.. its just that the product sucks and I wouldn't want you guys to waste your money on it like my friend did... I replied to a lot of the threads I linked but you'll see that I'm not the only one who shared the opinion.. I couldn't find that one long thread/long posts where we had a huge discussion on it... Teken had some good info on why not to get it..

Yay.. Clifford finally added the martrx RS3 to their website...

"Responder alerts you when your alarm is sounding, even if you’re too far away to hear it. Extreme range – up to a quarter mile under optimum conditions"

That's great that you help everyone out by alerting them to the poor quality of the Aladdin Alarm. I'm glad that you let everyone know .

It seems that I was too late in choosing an alarm. Today they broke into my car. I’m very fortunate in all that they did was damage some of the interior parts and steal my shift ****. I feel very sorry for my friend Paul (jdmtype680) because the assailants failed to steal my but stole his car. It is such a shame that people have to do this for extra money. My car will not be leaving the garage after it has repaired until I get a pager alarm now. I'll post some pictures of what they did when we-todd-did-racing starts working again.

damn that sucks that they broke into your car and stole your friends car too ... thieves

I was all paranoid to take my car to the mall this weekend because day after thanksgiving/weekend sales.. the theif basically knows your going to be in the mall for a while stuck in crowds and long lines... the whole while I was shopping I was worried my car would get broken into..

what was their entry point? did they break a window? Jimmy the lock? slide sumthing in to trip the power door lock switch?

The power door looks were unlocked by sliding something through the window. They left no scratches. Window looked like it was popped out of place. You can see fingerprints all over the window due the dew had accumulated on the car.

The damage is all repairable. I just feel really bad for my friend because he was not so lucky. His car was stolen. I think the immobilizer built in to the ignition/key system is the thing that saved my car.
