tranny help ....grinding gears sometimes
Not sure what it could be
sometimes the gears grind...especially 3rd to 2nd
I did a tranny flush....worked fine, had an autoX that weekend...couple days later...my gears are grinding going into gear (sometimes)
I noticed the fluid in the clutch master cylinder was low and dirty...so I flushed it out..and topped it off
What could it be
Syncros?
Pressure plate?
Bad tranny fluid? ( I used Honda MTF, I bought the GM syncroshift, havent' tried it yet)
Bad clutch master cylinder?
Any other possiblities?

is it on it's original clutch? if it is, might be the spring popped out, when you autoX it.
when it grinds, the spring is out, preventing the clucth from disengaginging, when it is fine, the spring is back in the spot, so it shifts fine. this case, it will grind in every gear.
it can also be your syncros.
also check for leaking master/slave cylinder for leaks first.
hope this helps.

I'm not quite sure, but if the spring was out, you wouldn't be able to put it in any gear. I cruised with my friend who has a clutch from clutch masters running a gsr ngin, he was on the freeway, and was throwing it from 3rd to 4th then when 4th to 5th, he couldn't throw it in. Then he couldn't take it out of gear. We stopped the car, and he couldn't put it in any gear. REverse would be the only gear that grinded. He went home, and took apart the clutch, and the spring popped out. So if the spring popped out, you'd be stuck in neutral, and no grinding cause you can't even get it in gear. That's just from the experience i had. sorry if this doesn't help.
exact same thing happened to me
consensus is if every gear is grinding all so suddenly then it's probably the clutch assembly... I'm about to put a new one in when i get the chance.

Yea it sounds like your synchros are going bad.. If it were a clutch problem you would have grinding in all gears as was mentioned above. I had this problem on my old toyota. In any case, make sure you check master cylinder and especially your slave cylinder for leaks or other apparent damage. If it is you synchros (and it sounds like it) either save up for a new tranny (B18B trannies should be easy to spot cheap) or get ready for a nice tranny rebuild. hth
It will grind is 3rd gear sometimes....matter of fact i've had a grind in every gear...just more so on the lower gears
When the engine is on, and the car is not moving it will go into every gear without hesitation
Does this indicate a syncro or clutch problem?

Also if its Synchro related, it will only grind at High RPM gear changes. Eventually it will get worse, into the lower RPM's and then, time for a Synchro.

exactly what happened to me. when it started it would only grind when shifting at redline, then eventually i had to stay under 4000rpm's so it wouldnt grind.
my 95 gsr grinds from 2nd to 3rd and it's the sychros...welcome to honda transmissions....more than likely it's just the sychros if it only happens from 3rd to 2nd, a bad clutch would hardly shift if at all and it would grind in every gear...
i'm thinking its not the synchros.....doubt that the syncros (all of them) could go bad overnight
I'm thinking its either the clutch or the pressure plate
if i shift at like 1,000rpm it goes into gear
Is it possible that the clutch isn't releasing properly and that when the clutch slows down its able to release? and that in high rpms it doesn't like to let go?

Clutch spring coming loose will be noticeable throughout all the gears. When mine was working itself loose, every gear was difficult to shift into. Anything above 3K rpm would grind. If I double clutched it made it easier.
If the problem is only isolated in one gear, most likely the synchros.
Its probably that spring in your clutch.
For example - I couldn't shift into gear between 3000-6000 rpm, but I could shift into gear anytime before that and after as well. I thought it was my synchros but in reality, it only happened to be that the spring popped out, or was about to pop out. Since your symptoms sound similar to mine, this could be the same problem..

dropped the tranny yesterday.......
changed out the clutch
three things were messed up
The wrong throwout bearing was in the tranny
all the springs in the clutch were loose
and part of the pressure plate had broken off.and the piece was floating around the tranny...doing its damage
works great now....no grinds what so ever
I installed the Exedy....nice clutch so far...
