Default Exhaust rockers shot??? Head work ?

Well, my d16a6 rebuild is getting more expansive everyday!

The following pics are of the exhaust rocker arm shaft, at first, I wasn't even going to dissasemble the rocker arm assembly, but I got bored.

I'm guessing that the groves that are etched into the shaft (and in the rockers themselves) are not a good thing. This only happened on the exhaust side, the intake side is still nice and smooth. I'm also guessing something like this is not machineable, and Majestic Honda wants $160.00 for a new shaft and 8 rockers, add that to the camshaft, valvesprings, and retainers that I was planning on replacing, and I may as well just get a new head ($624 for a stock rebuild at importperformanceparts.com or apx $1500 for a performance one from Exospeed)

So, is this a common occurance with these engines? the rest of the engine was suprisingly clean (except for a blown headgasket)

Anybody out there have a used set of rockers and shaft that's in good shape? I can get another head on Ebay for $50.00 or less, but I have no way of knowing if it has the same problem or not.

Keep in mind that I'm building this engine for reliability (I want to get another 150,000 mi out of it)

i'd start of with a diff head. Usually, If we there are signs of unusual wear and tear on the heads. Unless its some thing we will replace anyway, like valves, then it ok. But anything with the rocker arm assembly, such as chips on the rockers, areas where there are excessive friction, worn out, then I'd just pick up another head. especially if its just the A6 head.
But on DOHC VTEC heads, thats another story.. its not so easy finding those and for cheap.
its good for practicing on porting if you want to do that.

oh yah, our performance heads, include stainless steel valves, hot tank, port/polish, cam gear, cam seal, Exospeed custom cam(3 grinds avail), upgraded valvesprings and retainers, match ported intake manifold, and ported TB.

I've been thinking about doing one of your heads eventually, but I want to put my money into a strong bottom end right now. Once this motors in, I don't want to have to take it back out and you don't have to pull the motor to swap the head. I just want to put a trustable head on it for now, I guess I'll just take my chances with the one on ebay (current bid is only $15, so can't go wrong there)

ya no problem,
if you need help getting a custom bottom end. we do those as well.
We do from mild to all out. Sleeving available.
Right now we just finished a D16a6 bottom end with 11:1 compression bottom end.
We'll see how it does at the NHRA race in Pomona this coming weekend.
