place to remove dents in exhaust manifold
i'm looking for a place that can remove dents in my 4-2-1 exhaust manifold.
anybody know of a place in socal?
also if there is such place that does this, how much would it cost?
thx...
EDIT - i searched the forum, and found that places that make exhaust manifolds can do this. but anybody have anywhere for suggestions?

if there is a place that does this let me know that specializes in it
i highly doubt it
i think its possible to fix your header but it just wouldn't be worth it maybe
seems like they'll punch it out or something and unless there is some special machinery involved than maybe u'll be paying some $$$
just get a new header always a new excuse, unless u're header is a toda or jun piece

well it's the spoon 4-2-1... that's why i rather fix it...
it's been dented for almost half a year. it looks similar to how mike m dented his spoon 4-2-1.
hopefully someone knows a place.
based on searching the forming, there are 2 ways of doing it. one is to weld something on the header and pull the dent out.
the other is using a ball bearing. i'm not sure how that works.

the same exact thing for my header. i didn't feel any loss of power after i dented it or during the half year it's been dented.
suprisingly, i actually dented the header on the track, and not on the street.

to bad I'm in NJ, it only costed me 60 buck to fixed my mugen header. Its not perfect but 97% better than it was. It only took 1 hour to do too. Luckily I had the header off the car so it was much easier to lug around.

Perhaps you should have the header modified instead of fixed?
You could have the bent sections cut off, I'm guessing that it's on the secondaries, and have them extended to a 2.5" collector. Your b-pipe would need to be shortened to move the catconverter back a bit, but from what I've read, extending the secondaries on a 4-2-1 can provide greater gains. You could also make the junction for the secondaries meet at a lower angle to reduce the conflicting exhaust flow in the collector.
A motorcycle header shop would probably be able to do this.
Then again, I really don't know what I'm talking about
If I could afford a header to modify or an appropriately damaged piece, I'd try this.

but thanks for all your advice and help. hopefully somebody that knows sees this thread today!

Another idea may be to weld a bar to the spot of the dent, heat the dented piping a bit to soften the header tubing, and pull on the bar welded to the dent. When it's fixed, remove the bar by cutting / breaking the welds.
still no-one in socal?
does everybody just throw away there 1000 dollar header in socal and purchase a new one? or just continue using it?
i know there has to be at least one person in socal who knows a good place to fix exhaust manifolds...

would it? so u saying it costs more than 800-900 bucks to fix it?
i just need to find a place that can do a good job in socal.
i've seen prices of 100-200 dollars for people getting it fixed on HT, but not in socal. so i figure it's cheaper than buying a new one.

I sold my first JDM DC header to a kid local whose dad was a pro on restoring old school car. The header was bashed really bad and thought I would sell it for cheap. I sold it to him for $50. He showed it to me the next following day and it looking almost brand new. I didn't ask how he did that since I was kinda pissed if I knew.
Anyways, eventually he cut the piece out, hammared it flat and reweld the piece. Sanded it down and recoat the area. I guess simple as that.
He claims a good body-shop tech can fix it within hour. Body shop hour is $40 an hour.
Just my $.02 cent
I was gonna suggest Hytech also. I'm sure a good custom exhaust shop in the area could fix it. Isn't "Eastside Muffler" a good custom exhaust shop located in So. Cali? If so, give them a call.. Good luck.
The proper way to repair the dent would be to braze a stick onto the dent, heat, and pull the dent out. The stick can then be cut and ground down.
I have a friend who build bicycle frames for a living. I know he has repaired several headers in the past. A good body shop should be able to do it, or maybe try and find a machine shop that works with sheet metal and welding in your area.
I wouldn't take it to a muffler shop.
