Default homemade resistor box

I remember seeing a topic showing someone who put resistors inline with their fuel injectors instead of a resistor box. I did a search, but couldn't find that topic. What resistor do I need ot use, and which wire off of each injector do I want ot hook it to?

Thanks

You'd want a 10ohm resistor with at least 20 watts rating. I've used a 10ohm 10 watt, but I believe the 20watt is the proper rating.

There are two wires going to each injector. Cut either one (but only one) and attach one end of the resistor to one end of the cut wire and the other end of the resistor to the other end of the cut wire. Use a soldering iron.

at least a 20 watt? wow, injectors are pulling a fair amount of current.

so, to reiterate, hook up some 20watt 10ohm resistors inline with either wire going to the injectors? The wire doesn't matter?

What about heat.... thos things will heat up pretty bad, right? Will that be an issue?

A 20 watt resistor is a little more than you need. P = V^2/R = 144/12 = 12 watts.
But yes they will get hot, I think OEM boxes are in a heat sink case. JB weld those ******* to the fire wall, I think that'll sink enough heat.

And yes the wire doesn't matter.
http://www.digikey.com sells some nice 20 watt, 10 ohm resitors that come in a metal heat sink case with tabs for mounting for about $4 each.

wait a min..... the resistance is 12 ohms??? Thought they were 10 ohms...

edit: oh wait nevermind... the resistors are 2 ohms... duh me

woah... do they carry those at radio shack? Something tells me they're going to be a little expensive

Looks like radioshack.com has the 10wat 10ohm ones for $1.69.. I think I'll hit that up. If I were to buy some sort of heatsink there/project box/something, could anyone make any suggestions as to how to contina them to resist heat?

Thanks

radio shack has the 10 watt 10 ohm resistors in packs of two for like 2 bucks. You can get all 4 for under 5 bucks, I'm not to sure of the exact price.

You need to wire resistors in series when switching from high to low impedance injectors so you don't burn up your ECU.

Using larger injectors from certain model Eclipse/Talons allow you to run higher CC ratings (more flow), but they require resistors inline to avoid frying the computer (as they aren't honda injectors)

... planning on going to the junkyard this weekend... hope to find a resistor box... if i dont find one, then i guess it is off to radio hack for me...

... but anyways, i was wondering... when i am at the junkyard... where in the engine bay should i be looking to find the resistor box?... lemme know... thanks...

actually this goes for all RC injectors 550cc and over....
Saturated ones are only available in 440cc and lower.

Oh my god!!! Please guys, don't post advice if you don't know what your talking about. I don't mean to come off sounding like a jerk; however, if you follow those instructions you will possiblly seriouslly mess up your injectors and your wiring if you pick the wrong wire. There are 2 wires that go to each injector. Now, on my car 94 teg. it is the Yelow/black wire that you will wire the resistor into. Now if there is not a yellow/black wire on all 4 of your injectors look at your injectors- pull the little piece of material covering the wires back a little bit and loook at the wires there are going to be 2 wires 1 is going to be a wire that is the same for each injector like a yellow/black wire for each injector plus the other wire going to the injector (like red, blue, brown, yellow) but you would splice the wire that is the same for all 4 injectors!!! It is imperative that you do not splice the other one as taht tells the injector when to open and close not give it power. If you need a diagram let me know and I'll post one. But if you get a resistro box it's usually located on the drivers side near the firewall right behind the fender well. (Like where the clutch master cylinder resivoir is...) But the resistor box wiring is a little different email me or post here if you need that diagram let me know and I'll post them. Hope this helps.

Later,

Sean C.

Your an idiot, the resistor is in series with the injector, the injector is a current controlled device it doesn't matter which wire you cut. Go get your GED before you mouth off.

Riiiiight.... like I said go back to high school, you must have been smoking dope in the parking lot the day they had the lecture in Physics about electricity.

Ok, first of all, stop acting immature. Unless you personally have experiences with what you keep refering to (GED's and smoking dope) then you would realize that all you are trying to do is pick a fight. Now if you have some valuable information post it. Personally I saw some holes in your story and explained it better so that noone's car or equipment gets harmed. Now I won't argue with you or stoop to your immaturity to say "na-uh your wrong!, no your wrong, no you are!" That's childish BS! If you choose to IM me or something so I can ignore it and you can stop wasting opsting space on this forum.

On a lighter note, anybody that would like to know how to correctlly wire in a resistor box (or inline resistors in this case) here is a diagram that I think might help. (at least it helped me when I did this to my car , and about 5 other peoples cars, and fixed one that was originally done like Filetofit posted above) Well, here are the diagrams:

So like I said before, if you have any questions, email me at b18cvtecls@hotmail.com If you don't know about this stuff or want to act immature do everybody else a favor... so they don't have to look through all the crap to get to the real answer IM me or email me so it doesn't clutter up this post. thanks.

Oh, here is a specific diagram for inline resistors as I stated above that one is for the resistor box, well this one is modified for inline resistors.

Hope this helps.

This is correct, you have to splice the resistor into the power wire as the other pulses a ground to open the injector.

Baloney it doesn't matter. I'll put it to you this way, let's say you are wiring a switch inline to control a lightbulb. Which side of the lightbulb do you wire it to the ground side or the power side. Answer: It doesn't matter. Hello, get a clue.

Another question for all you Einsteins out there who think they know the difference between a volt and an amp. You take three 40 watt lightbulbs and wire them in series, whats the power draw? If you don't know then shut the **** up.
