Any one who has done a auto to manual&swap in 96-00 civic please read!!!!!!
Whats up, I need to know for sure the problems that may arise from doing a auto to manual swap in a 96 hatch. I will be doing a DOHC swap at the same time so i would need the shift linkage and all any way. Looks as if i will need pedals all clutch cilindes/lines ect. have herd of problems with a hole around shifter is this somthing a rubber boot of some kind could fix? did the shifter asimbily bolt up tp the car or did you have to drill holes to mount it. I know that the EK dosent need the tranny mount rewelded to the frame as do the EG civics, just would like to be reasured in this thought. I did a search but no definit answers, looking for someone who has done this swap for help ans advise. Thanks
my friend has a 4 door ek...he got a auto to manual swap done on his old single cam motor...i do believe that he had to have the mount rewelded..ill try to get him to post and say all that had to be done
Not on a civic, but my friend is getting his auto converted manuel in his eclispe. The mounts are something to be careful of, but the shifter hole should fit nicely in the auto hole (maybe some refitting), but u may have to drill a hole for the clutch pedal. This project shouldnt be that hard if u r doing a complete changeover.
I'd like to have detailed information on this. I'm also interested in doing this. Any info or web sites will be appreciated!
place racing sells a mount for 175 that allows you to use a 5 speed when swapping out an automatic without rewelding the bracket.

for the 5 gens you will need to move a mount, but for the 6 gens you don't need to move a thing, the 5 speed will just drop in.
i have an EK hatch and also have a helms manual. well, as far as i can tell from the pics in the helms manual, the auto tranny mount on the rail is the same as the manual one. I think you only need a bolt in manual tranny braket. so, no re-welding mounts. anyone correct me if i am wrong please.
This is good news for me too, if anyone can confirm it. I was under the impression that rewelding a mount was necessary (rear mount?). I could swear mistabone had mentioned this before, but I may have misunderstood...maybe its time for a search.
Ive heard about it being done..but the tranny was off a same kind of motor. they said they didnt have any problems cause like some of the holes are already in place.. like the clutch petal hole is there.. im pretty sure that its not as difficult as your thinking cause i will soon be doing the same, and when i tell people they never say anything bad like oh its gonna do this, they encourage me to do it.
