Fenderwell Trim on 1994-2001 Integras - Rust Problems?
i was told before to remove fenderwell trim - since it causes rust after some time (few years maybe?).. any of you removed it? i started to remove it, then thought about rocks hitting the paint.. and eventually leading to rust...
latest generation hondas don't seem to have it.. 3rd generation integras came out in 94, so I'm thinking at some time honda realized fenderwell trim isn't soo good in the long run?
a picture incase you're not sure what it is:

I have a 95 LS sedan, and I did have the fenderwell trim. I have recently been having serious rust problems on one of my rear fenderwells, so all the trim has been removed. Honda put it there to keep stuff out, but it kept moisture in too.

there was a post a couple days ago from some guy (sorry forgot your username) who worked in a body shop and he said to remove them... he must have had to replace/repair a lot of rust problems in the fenderwellz cuz he posted to take them off...
My fenders are rusting really bad. Back fenders seem to be the first ones to go usually. The only way, from what I hear, to fix them is to cut them out and weld new ones in. After I get new ones welded in and painted I think I'm going to keep the trim off and use some of that clear ruber/plastic protection stuff that some cars use on the front of the hood and bumper.
What do you guys think? Good idea?

I removed my fenderwell trim right after I took my car home from the dealer. My old Civic had the rust because of the trim, so I learned my lesson.

Yes...now that its winter, I heard that the fenderwell stores a lot of the road salt which will then lead to rust. Anyways, is it hard to remove the rear fenderwells? Can someone post a DYI because I am seriously thinking about doing this.
TIA

It is easy to do.
Start at the bottom and pull slowly. There is a bit of adhesive, but it should come out easily. At least it did for me.
Give it a good wash inside there after. (mine had dirt buildup inside)

my car has already been in the body shop (for many reasons) to have the rust removed from the rear fender lip........the body shop guy even told me to remove the rubber trim and leave them off......and try to wash off the inside upper lip of the fender everytime you wash the car to keep the dirt/sand/sand off it........
I want to remove mine if I have it on there, but I'm a little confused as to what it is. Can you e-mail me the pic since its not showing up? (I may not even have them in there and I don't want to remove the wrong thing)
TIA

Yup I got mine removed too.
The bodyshop at the dealership said to remove them and the place I got my car rustproofed said to remove them.
These liners are only on the rear wheelwells, they are only about an inch wide and are a soft metal covered in black rubber.

If you look at this pic, its the part labeled #10.
For those that removed it, did you just leave it as is, or did you replace the rear fenderwell molding with some other protectant?
