B18a vs B18b
I'm a bit confused on this but i think the B18a is the 90-93 Integra and the B18b is the 94+ Integra. Ok now that i have that out of the way, is the B18b significantly better or is it just the 10 HP difference and nothing much more? And if i wanted to install both of them in my 90 CRX Si, is the compatibility the same or is the 90-93 a bit easier for some reason that i can't recall?
They're pretty much the same...I'd take the B18b though, more HP and newer sensors and made to run obd1, cleaner emissions. I have both engines, running a b18b stock (non obd) and building a b18a NA motor, ls/vtec.
Yeah but doesn't the B18b cost like $1000 more? If that's the case i'd rather get a B18a and use that $1000 i saved on performance parts.

Nah, not really. B18b might be easier to find with low mileage, but you can still find a b18a with low mileage. I guess what was meant to say is that since the b18a is older, the mileage they quote you may not be correct.

You can make a b18b non-obd. You just have to swap some parts. I like the b18b more because of the vacuum lines are easier to hook up. I have no clue when I look at a b18a throttle body.
What I did on my B18b...used 91 teg injectors, distributor and PR4 ECU. Converted to MPFI and using Y1 tranny. If you're building your motor anyway i would get a B18a, cheaper...B18b if running it stock as it is...just my .02..

I used PR4 ecu & distributor and 95 LS injectors, but removed the resistor box and used OBD1 injector clips.

Wait, let me get this straight. How much would it cost to get all the parts necessary to put a B18a into my 90 CRX Si? I'm talking about all the necessary parts that i would need to do a complete swap, not just the engine and trans, etc.

b18bs are 500 usually for the long block. you need a b series mount kit. a b series cable trans. general b series **** is required
can easily be converted to obd0. all you really need is an obd0 dizzy and obd0 jectors. you can use your stock si harness and run the motor. you can maintain the obd1 mapsensor on the intake manifold. unplug the stock mapsensor plug (fire wall mounted) and plug it into the manifold map sensor.
its a very easy swap and very effective.
it'll run off a pm6 (but not well) or the obd0 teg ecu ( i dont remember the codes) or the zc ecu

The differences between the B18A and B18B are in the top end. The B18B has a different head. The intake ports are much bigger and flow alot better. The intake manifold is also bigger and flows better. And the ECU has more aggressive mapping than the 1990-1991 B18A. Because of all these things, the B18B produces more power than the 1990-1991 B18A (142 vs 130). It also responds better to mods (since it is kind of like a B18A with headwork). But be aware that if you use 1990-1991 electronics to run a B18B, you will not see all of the benefits since the 1990-1991 PR4 is not as aggressively tuned. Also, given the price difference between the B18B and B18A and the fact that the B20 is not much mroe expensive, you might as well just go B20 rather than B18B. The B20 is MUCH better than either motor.
