Default melted timing-belt cover!!! oh NO!!!!

Yesterday I was in Hungary for DRAG racing. When I drove home (300km) the stupid wastegate gasket blew again. I don`t cared, cause every few thousend kilometers this happens. It was 10.00 pm and already dark outside while driving home with that truck sound on the Autobahn.

Once of a sudden the engine shutted off. I was WTF!!!!!! come on!!!!!! It was dark, so we did not see anything. My friend draged me home with a rope and today in the morning I opend the hood. ....... .......melted timing belt cover-plastic everywhere and a loosen timing belt. It seems the exhaust gases from the damaged wg gasket were blowing on the cover.

BTW: I won my class with 13.1 @ 113 mph on street tires, 30 degrees C hot day and 500 meters above sea level. oh well.

Do you think I need new valves and pistons now. I hope not.

How's the car running now? I've snapped a timing belt on one of my LS motors and oddly enough everything was fine. Pulled the head and the valves and none of them were bent. Slapped in a new headgasket and timing belt and it was back and running. Unless the motor isn't running right and/or you're getting low compression, i'd just check everything over, replace the timing belt and go from there.

That is what I will do. Replace the Plastic covers to get the cams and crank new adjusted and replace the timing belt. Then I will crank that sucka and see what will happen.

The car is not running, cause the timing belt is loosen. The belt thighting thingy is fully sticky from plastic everywhere.

You may have gotten lucky. When you smash your pistons into the valves it is the most ugly thing you even want to hear. Its fairly loud also so if you didnt hear a thing you may have gotten lucky.

Christian, i didnt think you were running that high compression, i think your pistons and valves are ok if you can get all the plastic cleaned out and fix the belt tensioner, and get the camshafts and belt realigned.

yeah, I think too, since I run lower cr pistons of 9:1.........bring back the cams and cranck in correct position and ready for take off.

I did not hear loud noises when this happens. I also think it is not the wg gasket.....looks more like a leaky exhaust manifold gasket,.............and this one is shity to replace, but better do this than lifting the head again

yeah, that is realy a damn insane damage to my baby....ever heard of melted **** like that before?

We tried to adjust the cams and the crank today, but we did not get the bolts of the cam gears off. I need to clean the inner side of the cam gears from plastic and I have to put on back the stock gears, cause we do not know how my tuner installed the Skunk2 (and he do not remember too) He did this with a measure-clock.

What a shity time for me

How should I check the pistons?

The head is still on the block and the next step is to bring the crankshaft and the camshafts in correct position and than....crank this bitch!

well a leak down or compresion test would be a good idea....if you havent already pulled the motor apart.

Good luck
