Default Spring rates for AutoX

What is everyone running as far as spring rates for AutoX? On my 95 CX chassis with a D16Z6 I have the neuspeed racing springs that are rated at 450 ft, and 385 rear. When I called neuspeed about adjustable spring perches and inquired about the spring rates and my application they guy said that the rates I am running are a bit high for autocross. I am thinking of raising the car with adjustable perches to get some clearance and proper camber for road use and then drop the car again for race day. I am also rolling on 17s with lowpros (I bought it this way), any ideas on setup are welcome, minus new wheels and new suspension. also thoughts on adding sway bars? The car pushed like hell at the last event in SF, coulda been all the damn gravle too...

Your spring rates are on the stiff side but I would just try swapping them front to back. With spring rates that stiff you just need to make sure your shocks are valved to handle them. Also, if you don't have a rear sway bar get one. It will help your car rotate better.

Smaller rims and better tires will make the most improvment, but you already knew that.

Lastly, if your car is pushing it could be suspension setup, bad tires, or over driving the car (or all three).

Overdriving meaning entering corners too fast? I do that sometimes, I need bigger brakes or a slightly lighter foot

Overdriving means trying to take a corner faster then you can.

Big misconception. You just need better brake pads or learn to brake earlier.

None, its a CX Hatch which did not come with swaybars of any kind. There are mounts for the chassis brakets but none on the LCA, which means I either have to buy the beak's kit or something like it. I bought the car from a stunna and have been slowly going through it. It's pretty much slammed now so the next step is sort the suspension, correct the camber, buy better tires, bigger brakes... there is a list $$$$, BTW anyone know anything about VTEC wiring? My ECU is throwing a code 22. the reason is that I dropped a D16 from a 92 Si into my 95 CX and I don't think the two harnesses mesh, even though one plugs right into the other, thanks

If you do not have any sway bars then your spring rate is probably not high enough IMHO. They guys who has been winning DSP @ Nataionals in is X/19, he runs no sway bars on the car at all, jsut really really hight rate springs, like 900 to 1200 lbs. They way he talked was that sway bars are really helper springs, they put them on street cars to get a good ride, but to also so that they have good Handeling.

Ok so it seems switch my springs front to rear is the way to go. If I get some height adjustable perches, will these effect the spring rates/pre load ect.? The car is really low and I want an inch or two more clearance just for everyday driving.

Ok I just called for some adjustable perches and the guy said no way won't fit with my non-adjustable neuspeed springs, although neuspeed said they would, who is right? These are KYB non-adjustable gas shocks (white tube shock) and KYB non adjustable race springs (the yellow ones) Any ideas????

Veryify that the springs CAN be swapped front to rear. Are they dimensionally the same?

Ok, well in asking around it seems I am rather stuck with my current setup as upgrading will be a bit too expensive right now. The neuspeed springs are different front and rear, so no help there. The Shocks seem to be valved for lower spring rates as it is so raising the car will only help destroy the shocks, I am kinda stuck then, maybe a rear sway bar will be the best option for right now, thanks to all for your imput.

IMO. Keep the springs, the Neuspeed race springs seem to work very well, at least on the Integra's. Loose the KYB's. Good street shocks, but not as good for autocross. Go with the biggest rear anti-sway bar you can fit. Minimum 22mm. Try to get a race bar, like 25MM+. With out changing your springs, this will lend you a more balanced setup. Definately change to a race tire or the Azenis, depending what class you compete in. Remeber to always perform your mods to the class you want to compete in. Good luck.

sway bars are essentially helper springs. i wouldn't run them, but then I'd be looking at least 5-600 lbs/ft springs in front and the same, maybe more in the back to get the same effect. it's all a compromise
