Default Brands of Lightened Flywheel thread

I wanted to start a thread of Lightened Fly's that were out there. Im in the market now & ready to buy like... yesterday. Uhhhh... no aluminum fly's in this thread, though. For reasons beknownest to my last 2 fly's

I would like to set it up like this:

--------

Comptech Steel Flywheel
8.75 lbs
approx $400

http://solar.innercite.com/comptech/drive1.html halfway down the page

-----------

Addt'l info would be where to buy said fly for the best price. I wouldnt order through Comptech, Im pretty sure I could find it cheaper somewhere else.

I know Im gonna see a good Jun, Toda, or Exedy post from someone. Are there any other manufacturers out there?? We shall see.

Pete

Exedy Chromemoly Flywheel
8.8lbs (some say 9lbs)
$365 shipped/w free t-shirt

Clutch City Online
http://www.clutchcityonline.com/main...g_flywheel.htm

edit-I've had it in for maybe 5,000 miles, and there was absolutely no problem with fitment. So far so good. (You knew an Exedy entry was coming. )

If an aluminum flywheel is enlarging the holes, something else is wrong.

IT racers can only balance the flywheel, it might be a cheaper option for all. Buy a re-manned fly wheel and have it balanced. That way you can reduce some weight for fewer dollars.

Pete
AutoCarParts.com has the comptech steel flywheel for $372.08

http://www.autocarparts.com/search/r...=Drive%20Train

then click on the steel and then car type. those pages don't have direct links to them.

i'd be interested to hear how you like whichever one you get. you do mention that you've had a lightweight flywheel before. do you also drive this car on the street? i've heard that a light flywheel may not keep my idle up, and i'll have to apply a little throttle to keep the engine from stalling in traffic or at a stoplight... is there any truth to this?

how significant is the impact on acceleration? my application is for an autocross/street car.

thanks for the help,
phil

I bought a brand new JUN ultralight flywheel off ebay for $200. Chromolly steel, weighs 9lbs. I've seen a few on Ebay from time to time.

Correct me if im wrong but i heard with the JUN flywheels you may need to change out your starter to a JDM starter? I heard this from a local dealer and although it doesnt effect effect some serious racers (some have JDM engines), it may not be the best for ITR's, Si's and GSR's that abound our tracks daily.

I vote for TODA BTW.

I took mine out and had it mill balanced when we did the clutch. Looking at the flywheel, there's a ton of material that can be safely shaved off. I used the ACT flywheel on my old car for two years and loved it. If I'm not mistaken, ACT took OE flywheels and shaved them to 11 lbs. OE is at least double that.

I'm pretty sure pest wasn't interested in any aluminum, if I read correctly.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I did daily drive the **** out of my car for 10 mths w/ the Fidanza/CM lightened fly. It was fine for daily driving & drag racing. When it came to Road Racing, it didnt withstand the torture.

As far as acceleration... HELL YEA!! All I got to say about that!

Idling... I upped my idle to 1100 rpms. I did this cuz my car is pretty rough & anything below 900 rpms would shake my dash pretty bad & it was annoying.... so up went the idle. As far as stop & go on the street, I stayed in 1st a lot & when I was bored I would tap the gas & the car would go uuu uuuu uuuu uuuu bobbin back & forth. FUN!! I could also cruise in 1st off the gas & the car was fine.

I'm pretty sure pest wasn't interested in any aluminum, if I read correctly.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
No need for corrections... NO NO NO to alum-inum-inum!!

I really need to get pics of my fly's to show you all.

Now back to the subject!!!

Pete
