Both headers give you excellent gains and they work. Mostly on moded engines.

They are both excellent, I don't think you can really argue who is better on that front. I have the full HyTech header-cat-exhaust system and am incredibly happy with it. I also know of SMSP customers who are incredibly happy with their systems as well.

Both HyTech and SMSP are custom exhaust builders so you should probably contact them both personally and see for yourself what is going to be better for you.

you will probibly find a lot of really good information by searching the archived threads. there have been some very good threads in the past, but most people are reluctant to get involved with another hytech/sms thread.

is it true that these headers only work well if you have a fully built motor. I have pretty much every bolt on and it's time to upgrade my exhaust and header. How much do these usually go for. The header and the exhaust?

To get the Full potential of the header, a fully built motor you would definately bigger gains as compared to other headers on the market.......

get a hytech or smsp header if you are serious... if you have a ported head and cams then these headers will be good for you if you have nothing and just want a header get a jdm 4-1, but as i stated earlier if you plan on getting cams and such there is a wait for these headers i think?

Thinking about using the Hytech setup on my Nitrous ITR. Should it yield much more power then a DC JDM 4-1?

I have an SMSP header on my 2001 R. It works just fine with a stock motor. It will work even better as you add other mods, yes, yes, it will.

It will work much better than a JDM Honda header, no question. And it is tuneable for the RPM range you want.

It works best with a Carsound 2.5 cat and a 2.5 exhaust. Dave can help you there , too.

I have one and am VERY happy with it. Its a kick in the butt!

right now i just every bolt on except a manifold. I wanna upgrade the exhaust and header before i get to the internals. If i get a hytek and then do the internals would that be ok or is it better to get the internals and then get the header because it's custom made?

does the hytech header make a lot of noes or is it quiet like at the web site that says ?
the web site says "The system is full stainless steel and comes with 2 1/2 cat and our own double bypass stainless muffler for the quietest ride and the least restrictive on the market. "
how long is it?
does it go all the way to the rear bumper, not the header but the bypass stainless muffler?

After firing approximately 3 neurons I tried http://www.hytechexhaust.com and it worked.

Imagine that.

Yes it goes to the rear of the car like a normal muffler and is very quiet. Pretty much just a deep version of the stock sound. The tip is 3.5"

EDIT: fixed image

This is a pic of the lower portion of the header. As you can see it's much longer than your average header.

Whether you choose HyTech or SMSP you can be sure your exhaust system will be ready for whatever setup you can throw at it.

Actually, at this point the HyTech(sp?) design should no longer be 'custom' as it has a CARB spec and the design is frozen.

I would do the header and exhaust first before doing the internals. It will be an immediate improvement. Besides the header, I got a modified Carsound Cat from Dave at SMSP as well as the mufflers and various pieces I needed to build a 2.5 exhaust. I've had the header on the car for almost a year now with no problems. It definitely makes power you can feel!

Dave was great to work with and made some minor changes to the header to mount an EGT ensor for me. Installation of header and cat was easy.

I dropped in a JUN 2 intake cam Saturday and played around with the timing Sunday and it makes a real nice combination with the SMSP header. I have a Greddy E-Manage system on the way and I'll get serious about tuning everything when I get it in.
