i've seen 2 different types of tie bars, the kind that bolt the the lower control are bolts, and then i've seen the type that gets bolted between these two points but underneath. which one of these makes the biggest difference in handling?

i was wondering this too, the one that bolts onto the control arm bolts is like the benen bar right? and the other one that hangs down a bit would be like the spoon bar? which one of these are better?

my guess is that the most optimal would be where the control arm bolts are..right where the subframe is. the lower the tie bar, the further away from the subframe which i guess would create unecessary flex and torque stress.

well the kind that bolts in right next to the control arm bolts doesn't really sit any lower. its prety level with the bolts. as an example of one, here's a link to an old ebay auction for a comptech tie bar that bolts between the control arm bolts.

any other opinions on if this kind, or the other kind of tie bar is more effective?

I love my Comptech rear sway/tie bar combo, the tie bar mounts thru the lca bolts, its real secure and looks awesome too(not that I care too much about that though, I'm in it for the performance), enjoy

I bought the comptech stand-alone one because to me it's design seemed to be the best. The lower tie bars that attach at the lca bolts are only bracing the rearward edge of the lca mounting points. If the lca applies force on the bolt in a hard corner, the force will be transfered to the other end of the lca bolt that is not supported by the brace. I guess a better design than either of these would be if the brace was wider, and attached to the center of the lca bolts. The comptech one attaches at the center, but it relies on the strength of the steel attachment points on the underside of the chassis. I think the rear sway/tie bar combos are well designed, and definitely worth considering. Here is a picture of the bar on my car.

I would have gotten the comptech too, but I realized drilling was involved...8 holes I believe.

Is there any way to mount two lower tie bars?? One on each side of the subframe connected to the LCA bolts. Or does anyone make a bar that connects to both sides of the LCA bolts??

i think the comptech is an excellent bar but if you dont want to drill or deal with that difficult of an install i defintely think that the benen bar is the next best since you only have to just bolt it on and its a beefy strong bar with top notch quality.

1)Is there any way to mount two lower tie bars?? 2)One on each side of the subframe connected to the LCA bolts. 3)Or does anyone make a bar that connects to both sides of the LCA bolts??
1)I'm sure there is if you have enuf room on both sides.
2)Kinda the same as Q#1, but I don't think you should apply that much pressure on those bolts by having 2 rear lower tie bars!
3)I don't "think" anyone makes anything like that.

But to give you a suggestion if you're looking to make that rear sub frame area stiff and re-enforced, try using the Comptech piece as used above by 94integrals and a Cmptech rear swapbar kit like this
That combo shoudl give you some lowre stiffness and re-enforecement.
But don't forget to support the rear upper area as well with (at least) a strut tower brace!
