Default thrust washer

what is a thrust washer and where does it go? do they need to be replaced when rebuilding an engine?

the thrust washer or thrust bearing sits against the bottom of the block and is squeezed between the block and one of the crankshafts counterweights. you might as well replace it when rebuilding the motor, it's cheap. i think there's usually only 2 of them. look at #3

Yes replace them. Everytime you let the clutch out it pushes on the crankshaft and the thrust wash takes the hit. They go around the #4 main bearing with the grooves facing toward the crank. (The groove is how it oils.) I think it's only about $6-8 for a pair from Honda.
