Oil Filter - Honda or Mobil 1?
I am switching over to synthetic on my 99 Acord Sedan I-4. Should I use a genuine Honda filter or Mobil 1? Any difference? It gets driven 6K miles a year (daily use, short trips).
Mobil 1 supposedly has synthetic fibers in their filter which is probably good for a low mileage car.
I talked to the local parts guy and his answer "Honda has this thing that keeps the oil from flowing back out". Duh.
Your opinions?

If you still have a warranty use the HOnda filter. otherwise, they won't warranty it.
in otherwords - unless they give you a Honda filter for free, they can't void your warranty for using a filter made by mobil1 that was intended for your car. and last time i checked, honda filters were still about $6
There used to be member here with a link to one kick *** oil filter comparison site, I don't remember the url, but the Mobil 1 is a far superior filter and the Honda oem filter had the same quality as a Napa Gold oil filter.. let me search around ..
Well, I ended up using a Honda filter this time since the local place was out of Mobil 1 filters for my Accord .
I guess I will worry about it next year when I change the oil again....
Breakstuff - if you can find that comparison, that would be some good info for all of us!

It was suggested to my by King Motorsports to stick with OEM. I have seen cutaways of the OEM and some other generics and there is no comparison- OEM is far superior.
Why try to save a buck or two and take a chance on damaging your engine. OEM filters are extremely cheap insurance.

is there something wrong with getting a frams filter??? i get it cuz of the grip

I heard somewhere that you should always use OEM filters no matter what make of car you have. Something to do with the valving being designed for the engine. Maybe flow rate or something. Anyway, when I buy Honda filters, there are different ones for different years and models of Honda, so I figure there's a difference.

I saw a comparison, and they dismantled one of each of the OEM Honda filters since there is one made in Canada, one in the US, and one in Japan.
The Japanese one is best, the US and Canada ones are okay.
At least for the 92-95 Civic's, you can get the Japanese ones from http://www.thepartsbin.com
The American one says Filtech on it.

This is the JDM one:

And the Canadian, not sure how to tell it apart though:

This is the only place I've found that has them all listed separately. Supposedly, if you go to a dealer, and specifically order the JDM filter part #, you'll get a USDM one anyway.

he's right. i'd go with mobile 1, i like their oil, i use it in my del sol, synthetic only. that new high mileage oil is crap.
you're a fan of Mobil 1 eh?

at my work i get pennzoil filters and mobil one synth for free...so i really dont give a ****..because i get to do an oil change as much as i want. as long as u keep up on your oil changes u should be alright with a generic if u dont use honda.
the OEM Honda filter maintains a higher oil pressure and was DESIGNED specifically for your car, think about it.
