i just recently bought a used comptech exhaust and installed it the other day...problem im having is this rattle coming form somewhere in the middle of the car...around cat?...the rattle occurs at around 3k rpm...i've been doing some searches and read about a couple of people here on h-t who had the same problem and said it was a crack in the b-pipe or something...i was wondering if it could be a heat shield rattle or could it be a defect from comptech...the exhaust is on a 01' gsr and most of the people i searched were 98-99 cars and since the exhaust on the 00-01 is different i was hopeing comptech had fixed the problem...any suggestions? Also, if it was the heat shield (hopefully)...how do i make the rattle go away?...thanks

 

by the way...for those who have had the same problem with cracked b-pipe...is there any particular spot i should be looking for the crack? thanks again

 

I'm thinking of also getting this exhaust. How do you like it? Happen to have a sound clip maybe? No one seems to have one.

 

I'd like to know how it sounds also on a Teg. I've heard one on an 4cyl Accord, but I was not impressed. It sounds a little too loud for me, the pitch is a little too high also. Afte I install mine, I'll try to make an audio clip of it with my rio MP3 player.

 

I wish SOMEONE would make a video/sound clip of the comptech on an integra. I've looked everywhere with no luck.

 

if the sound happens around 3k rpm under mild accel, you need to buy a new header. there is a piece in your stock y pipe that is rattling. it won't affect performance, but people will look at you funny.

this is a perfect time to upgrade the header too!

90% chance that this is the problem, best to go and have someone look at it though, as it may not be what I am telling you.

samagon...i already have a dc ss 4-1 header so no heat shield there..thanks though...anyone else? Oh by the way...the exhaust is alot louder then i thought it would be...kinda too loud for me but im getting use to it...but it has a really deep tone though..

I don't have a comptech but I have a Greddy Exhaust system.. when my resonator (in the B-pipe) rusted out. it had a rattle.. like a metal on metal noise... I ruled out the head shields because I took them all off when I did the exhaust install.. I replaced the header so it couldn't be the notorious 95 gsr header rattle... and I checked all the bolts from header to cat, cat to B-pipe, and rear section and all the hangers.. took it to a shop and they said it was the resonator.. they sawed it off and it was indeed rusted out... don't know if this is related to your problem or not...

 

Before you go buying a new header to try and fix the rattle try removing the metallic colored heat shield that wraps over the b-pipe right after the cat. It is secured by one bolt under the car and it wraps over the pipe right where your shifter unit is. I think just about all integra's are notorious for this rattle. When I called acura they gave me the "Ok' to remove it. Also, take a stick or something and check to see of your cat heatshield is secured, two bolt on mine rusted away on one side so it was flopping around and rattling like crazy.

I have a vid of aem cai, comptech header + exhaust on an LS.

 

yup, go for it. The only really important one is on the cat, as it can prevent fires if you park on the grass. The other heatsheilds are mainly to prevent heat from the exhaust from rising into the cabin. I removed all mine, no problem.

Hehe, its weight reduction! (a whole 5lbs at most hehe)

No prob. Actually the the official color is Adriatic Blue Pearl
The blue integra has the aem cai, comptech header, stock cat (for now), comptech catback exhaust. I don't have any videos of my car while its being driven. Sorry.

The white integra has a generic cai. The rest is stock.

 

I just got a Comptech setup installed, and I had a similar groaning/scratching sound. Ended up that the flange on the piping (after the cat) (i guess under the b-pipe heat shield) was scratching against the heat shield. the shop took it off and everything is perfect now.
