Out with the old(RE010), in with the new(Toyo Proxes T1S)...My thoughts..
I'll try to make this as brief as possible. I just got new Toyo Proxes T1S tires to replace the very worn RE010s(22,000 miles). The first thing i noticed when the guy rolled the Toyos to me was how MUSHY the sidewall was. And i seriously had second thoughts about putting them on. But i wasn't sure what the old one's felt like so, what the hell. Then when the first Bridgestone came off i checked the difference. The Bridgestone was WAY stiffer. Now i really had a knot in my stomach. The guy was real careful with the wheels and tires and even did the alignment. I never knew how complicated that process was. So $540 later, i was on my way. By the way, i had him put the stock psi in, 35f and 33r. The first thing i noticed was the steering was like butter, but the car didn't turn as fast as i was used to. It seemed like it took an extra 1/4 turn to get it there. The next thing i noticed while taking a turn pretty fast, was how unstable the car felt. I was ready to take the damn things back. So i stopped and put 2 more psi in all around. That made it feel a little better, but no where near the Bridgestones. Do these need time to break in or what? I was going to get Dunlop SP9000's but changed my mind. If anyone has any input to make me feel better, or worse, would be greatly appreciated. Did i make a bad choice or what? Oh yea, 195-55-15 is the size. Thanks......
I liked my T1-S'
How many miles did you put on them so far...I don't remember how mine felt when new

I just drove around after i got them put on today. Maybe 20 miles. What tire pressure are you running? Maybe the stock pressure is too low or something.
I always run max air pressures in all my tires unless I feel a need to change it due to the way the car is handling.
LOL!
I used to run the original type Blizzaks on my 323 GTX @ 40psi +
Good thing was I gould go just as fast in the dry as I could in the wet/snow!

tyres DO require break in to get rid of the oil and other stuff that tyre makers put on new tyres.
I wouldn't suggest max pressure. As you drive around the tyres will warm up and which point you will EXCEED the max pressure.

The real question is
How much boost did you run?
I agree with Yoshi, give the tires some time to "break-in" and hopefully they will feel better and you can play with tire pressures to get a better feel.. Good luck..
Try 38f 36r and adjust from there... all DOT tires that are not heat cycled/shaved/etc are going to feel like you are driving on steamy cow **** until you wear the "sheen" off them... some tires require 10 miles, some 50 or more... Depends on how you drive them...
Reid, though this if OT --- car was stock throughout its 130K miles in my care (54K-185K), with the exception of a custom SS exhaust after the HKS cat-back started coming apart.
Sold it this past January to a friend of a board member.
Yes, as noted above ... don't exceed max manufacturer tire pressures ...
LOL. steamy cow ****!!

Crank up the psi. 40-44 is perfectly safe to use as cold pressures. Just depends on your tastes.
The 44 "max" psi is just a suggestion. They're not going to unseat themselves.
Warren, who has run far more than the max on many tires

i ran t1-s and i loved them too i ran them at 44psi. but they're all gone now and i think i'm just going to tr running slicks like the kumhos. cause i barely drive the car.
I had the exact same feeling when I first got my T1-S coming from the RE010s...it was like, steering response is so much slower! I wanted to take them back too! I bumped the pressure to about 39-40psi and ran them like that all the time...they *do* get better, but they never get you that "go-kart" type steering feel like the RE010s did. That said, they are much quieter and much better in the rain, and should last siginificantly longer.
I just got another set(used) of RE010s this week to use for auto-x, I slapped them on just to see how they felt...they were awesome
Im gonna miss them with the Toyos go back on. I will probably just say screw it and get another set of RE010s when the Toyos do wear out.

you gotta remember that the toyo is a light *** tire.
go check the weights on
toyo 205/50/15's
and then
falken azenis 205/50/15's ...
i know for a fact toyo has the weights on their
website..and i believe falken has their tire weights too.
stiffer sidewall=heavier tire
not as much sidewall=lighter tire
and i think it's tirerack.com that has an explaination of the tire break in period.
rod- who's falken azenis are heavy azz fawk but handle like allen iverson

Yes, the maximum tire pressure recommendation is the maximum that the tire can 'safely' handle while the tires are heated.
And remember that your worn Bridgestones would obviously respond better since they were worn, so maybe the Toyos would get better over time. Maybe you should have considered a 205/50/15 size too.

Quote from RoadandTrack:
It's important to note that the maximum pressure listed on the sidewall is a true maximum, or hot, tire pressure. So don't set your P-8000s to 51 psi cold. The typical 2-5-psi rise in pressure as the tires warm up at legal freeway speeds would then exceed the tires' maximum pressure rating.

If you have contary evidence, please post.

I did notice that they were noticeable lighter than the re010s when i picked both of them up. I thought for sure the worn old tire would be lighter than the brand new tire. Go figure....

"$540 later..."
holy crap for just, wheel mounting and balance?? damn that hurts. did they put gold in the tires or something??
is that witht he price of the tires too?? when i got my tires done it cost me $75 with an allignment and balance.

Um, yeah. Manufacturer data which says right on the sidewall:
"Maximum cold pressure"
60 psi is not going to begin to unseat the bead. You'll need at least 100 psi or so to unseat it from overinflation. Even then, you'll have to beat the snot out of it on the track to even come close to unseating it.
You have a far greater chance of bad mojo happening from underinflation.
