Just thought I'd share my "oops" experience...

Hehe, ok so I've determined I don't have the necessary parts at home to make a boost controller I made a bleed type controller and went out testing after my rather inconsistent boost control at the track. Steady state boosting was fine (rolling in gear and accelerating). Shot up to 10psi and held steady. Then at gear change...wham...17+psi! Boost just shot up like a rocket and would have kept climbing if I didn't let off. I tried several configurations...all spiking over 15psi! I must have spiked 10+ times.

Surprisingly, the engine is holding fine (plugs showed no signs of detonation and compression tests are still solid). I still had some 98 octane in the tank, so I felt somewhat secure But apparently my compression ratio is lower than I had initially believed. I believe Pritos was running 8.5:1 compression and his compression test results were around 150psi. From the point I assembled my engine I have been getting consistent 135psi readings . I burn no oil, get no blow-by, and still maintain 22+in/hg at vacuum. I think that's why I can get away with 17psi spikes and have my btm set at a low 0.3*

What's everyone think? This Friday at the track I may up the boost (using the Hallman boost controller I just purchased) to 12psi. With an extra 5psi, think I can pull some mid 13's

Ya, I think you can. You should be able to hit 2.1 60ft's consistently with dr's. If you can do this, I bet you will hit mid 13's. Glad to see you decided to buy a real boost controller.

 

Yeah, I'm a cheap bastard My goal for this project is daily driven 13's for under $3000. That includes the cost of the car and the recent body and paint work
