OK, once an for all..IS A GIRDLE REALLY NEEDED? (did search)
I did a search...i looked at different sites, but i still could not come to a conclusion....if i'm runnng an LS/VTEC (B18B block, B16 head) , turboed and will be pushing around 300WHP, revvin to 8,000RPM, do i need a block girdle?
also, what exactly is "crank walk"... usually when people talk about girdles, they talk about crank walk..but never give an explanation of what, and exactly how it happens..
please enlighten me... and don't tell me that IT IS needed...tell me WHY...

I am a firm believer in girdles, thats why i love the design of the d16 so much, because it uses one girdle that encompasses all the main caps. crank walk is when you are making tons of power and stressing the crank so that it over stresses the main caps and moves slighly. this is much easier to do when you have seperate mains as opposed to a main cap. higher rpms also increase the likelyhood.
You def. need a block girdle on a ls/vtec set-up. Your crappy r/s ratio doesnt help things at all, this puts alot of sideloading on the cylinder walls and mains.
I have a z10 girdle on my b16a, which is probably overkill. Do it right and spend the extra cash, your block will last alot longer from it.

This is a thread that I saved in my notepad for future reference. Some good info here. I suggest you save it to yours too.
