over reved engine now have engine problem on my 00 itr
i have a 00 type r and this is my first honda. i ran it this weekend and over reved the car. The car lost power and i had to keep giving gas or it would stall. I changed the spark plugs and still the idle is messed up. i checked it out and it might be a valve stuck open due to a spring letting go maybe an injector??? Hs this problem ever occured to someone else??????I havent opened the head yet, because my friend who is a toyota tech is going to help me with the problem.
My question is if i replace the valve springs, retainers and valves, do a port job to the head, cams will i have to do other work to the engine itself??? And what type of cams should i purchase i dont want to have a rough idle due to my cam???Will i also need to change the oil pump, and other parts due to my engine problem that occured? At toyota when something like this happens they change the whole long block, not sure why but they do that to celica's. Help is needed if anyone knows of another web page i can ask or talk to a honda tech please let me know. thank you for everyones help who replys

Chances are, it is the valves, or valvetrain related parts.
If you do what you are talking about, I would not think any other work would be necessary, unless you dropped a valve and hit a piston. But it does not sound that way.

bending valves sucks. It happened to me on jun 29, i ended up bending both intake and exhaust sides, now i'm driven around a ford ranger till the work is done to my car. by the way fstasntz call me up next time your in town.

if the dude who i bought my itr gave e my stock intake them im sure i could convice him. honda tryed to get me to trade in my car for an s2000 oh and didi say a 2001 with 12k for 33 and trade my itr for 16 lol. now if i had my stock intake i could be like im interested in that s2000, but since my car is not wanrrentied how could i sell my car and get that s2000 lol. is there a difference between the gsr intake and the type r intake stock of course. im contiplating doing that..... if not gotta do the work myself with my friend. i did a compression test at englishtown and one wasnt right. hence the valve is stuck, so that means the spring let go the retainer is done and i just hope the valve isnt hitting the piston... would the valve hit the piston on a honda do they have that much little clearence?? thanks again for everyones reply
it happened when i missed a shift i tried to go into 5th missed it and went into 2nd pissed off my mph was slower than the other person and i did a 15.5 so im sure i could have gone in the 14's.!!!!!! on just an aem intake and stock tires and i had to get the car towed thats life. thanks again

anyone know of a good place i can get my head worked in the eastcoast? i want qality prodcuts so if this may happen again miss shift that this problem wont happen again. thank you
How the hell did you mistake 2nd for 5th?
5th is up and all the way right...2nd is down and all the way left.
Sounds like you need one of those auto-stick-steptronic slushboxes.

I'm with Ross on this one... And WTF were you doing going for 5th on the strip? An AEM doesn't give you that much power

Does so!
Nawwsss.... I can do 12's
Kostas, easy with the Greek profanity.. J/k. As everyone else mentioned, your mis-shift most likely caused you to bend your valves. Most likely no dealer will cover this. Your gonna have to suck it up, and pay lots of money for it. No matter what valves you replace them with, if you mis-shift again, the same result will occur. Good luck and be very careful when shifting. You should have not had to go past 4th gear at Etown..
It seems it would be much more reasonable if he was down shifting from 5th into 4th and ended up shifting to 2nd!? Either way I say he was still lucky not to break anything else

Mistook 2nd gear for 5th....
Chris - who isn't even going to ask how one could do that.

*measuring the distance between the 2 shifts and comming to the conclusion that it is the 2 most farthest gears*
well see i maxed out in 4th, so after 4th is 5th gear, hence go to the next gear. Hey, if you gotta pay you gotta pay. Besides if its the head no problem. redue the valves, valve guides, retainers, springs and just keep my stock cams there good enough. Does anyone know of a company in the east coast who do really good work on cylinder heads? i heard of race in florida, but im not sure....

So how did you exactly overrev it ?
