timing won`t set right??????!!!!!!
i swapped a b18a in my 91 hb 4 years ago and it never would run good until u advanced the distributor all the way . 2 years ago i put a b16a 1st gen in my car and it did the same thing . so i finally advanced the crank 1 toothe on the timming belt and you can set the distributor timing normal in the middle of the perch on the head . now i have a 2nd gen b16a and it still does the same thing . it will also run right if a set the intake cam ahead one toothe but power is nowhere below 4000 rpm . i`m using place racing harnesses in the engine bay , i have i/h/e and single belt underdrive pulley and jun 8lb flywheel , typeR valvetrain and portflow retainers , ctr intake cam and gsr exhaust cam . just got done wiring up 75 shot of nos haven`t even tried it yet. wanna sort out this prob first . also when i built the motor i cleaned it inside and out and now after 2 months of driving there`s sludge on the backside of the t/b butterfly . smells like gas also inside the intake
i have no idea the thing runs fine when i advance the crank or the intake cam 1 toothe on the timing belt but if you set it the way it should be it acts like it`s retarded heavily
dude i`ve been working on b16`s for years and i can tell you i know how to set the timing on it . it just seems like theres more to this than i`m seeing . maybe wiring or the ecu ? i don`t know .

hey!!! i'm haveing the same problem.. are u getting any codes?? i'm getting a 9.. i think that might have something to do with it.. i think the ecu might be retarding the timing because of the cyp sesnor.. i'm gonna check it tomorrow..
I know what the problem is.
Check the timing marks on the aftermarket pulley you are running.
I bet they are off.
If you still have the factory pulley, put it on and set the timing with it.
then swap the afermarket one.
I bet you'll see a difference.
