Default KYB AGX vs Tokico Illumna vs Koni Yellow

I had KYB AGX on my 99 Nissan Sentra. They were pretty good shocks. I have a friend with the Illumnas and he loves them. I've also heard good things about the Koni yellows.

I havea 1998 EX. I'm most likely going with H&R springs. Which shocks do you recommend and why?

Koni Yellows rock, but you're gonna pay. KYB AGX's and Tok Illuminas are very similar shocks, KYB's will cost you less though. Bang for the buck, can't beat 'em.

Koni Yellows had them on my old GSX. Only Tokico I'd get are the Blues if I were just looking for some good non-adjustables to get. I wanna replace my the Illumnas in my Civic for some Konis later on.

I run Koni Yellows on my Civic and can attest to their quality. The ride quality is near stock even with 450+ spring rates. If those are out of the price range, I have heard good things about the KYB AGX.

I hate to sound like an ******* for directly rebutting the guy above me's comments, but I must say this:

Tokico Blues SUCK. They are way too soft and if you run any sort of stiffer spring (like what every coil-over kit comes with) then you will be maxing them out and they will be blown before you know it.

I don't have enough experience with the Tokico Illuminas to say how they are.

I have owned a set of KYB/AGX with Skunk2 coil-overs and they were awesome. The car rode great and was never bouncy. For the money I believe you cannot beat the KYB/AGX adjustables.

For non-adjustable struts I can also recommend the KYB Silvers. My fiancee' has had them on her 1992 Civic Si with Skunk2 coil-overs for over a year now and they are great. She has auto-X'd on them and I've ran the car hard on some twisty backroads and they are by far the best non-adjustable struts I've driven on. The car sees road trips a lot too, and the car rides great - never has bottomed out once and the car nearly tucks 15'' wheels with 195-50-15 tires.

Finally, my opinion on Koni Yellows.

I've not had mine on very long, but I can already tell that they are bad-***. Just post a topic inquiring about Koni Yellows on the auto-X/Raod race forum and you will see that they are highly recommended by many people over there.

My car serves double-duty as daily driver and auto-Xer, and the next track event I can get to it will also be on a road course too.

The car handles amazing and still rides civicl even though I have 425FR 550RR springs on it. The Konis can handle these stiff-*** springs, so I'm sure they will do great with any other of the shelf coil-over sleeves or springs.

MY personal opinion summed up:

Best adjustable struts for the money: KYB/AGX or Koni Yellows if you want THE best for reasonable money.

Best non-adjustables for the money: KYB Silvers

Just my opinions, not set in stone or anything.

Best non-adjustables: KYB Silvers
I would tend to go more along the lines of Bilstein in this category. But my mothers old Accord is in dire need of shocks, and I'm gonna get her some of the KYBs to try out.

My bad, I meant best non-adjustable for the MONEY.

Of course there's better out there, but I meant for the dirt cheap prices that you can get them at they are hard to beat in terms of ride quality, durability, and performance.
