Default Battery Light

98 dx
d16y7

Hey all, just left for work this morning, -18 celcius, 0 fahrenheit. And when i went to start the car, it started but was chugging like it was running on 3 cyl. Car was fine last nite no probs.

When i upped the rpm's, it smoothed out. Well i had to get to work so i drove it as is. Just as im almost there i get to a stop sign and the car dies. I get it started again and it just dies again. If I keep the RPM's up it will stay running, but as soon as I let off it dies. There is no CEL.

Im thinking my battery is dead, but I just bought a new one like 2-3 weeks ago.
The only thing i did recently was give a friend a boost and I'm thinking thats what killed the battery.

Any ideas people?

Thanks.

Naw.

Just wont run on its own. I have to hold on the throttle to keep the revs up. Im pretty sure the battery took a **** from the boost.

But i just wanted some other opinions.

yeah that is my best bet...the alternator is not charging your battery well enough...so if you can go out an see if someone could check your alternator for you to see if it good or not..

The bad alternator hasn't been charging the "new" battery, so its got no charge. Take both to AutoZone or where ever to get them tested ASAP. Where did you get the batt cuz the alternator "could" have ruined the batt.

well the battery is still under warranty so ima exchange it. If this still happens then i know its the alt. If it was the alt would the car still run if i give it throttle? cause if it was running on just battery then it would die right? Cause it still runs if i keep the revs up.

its the alternator. get a new battery and check what voltage you get at the battery when idle if less than 13.8V your alternator is not charging the battery

fist if ur car is not staying on when u drive it it isnt ur battery.
the alt is what keep ur car on.
to check ur alt.
start the car and disconnect the pos bat cable and if the car dies right away then ur alt is toast if it stays on then u got another problem.
start checking ur bat fuse under ur hood .,
then ur alt spped sensor fuse under ur dash.
ur battery is mainly to start your car.

thanks for the reply. I think i have narrowed it down to a faulty MAP sensor, as i have a cel #3 now. The Alt and battery voltage checked out.
