Default *irratic idle!!* Help Please!

Ok so just got a system installed in my 2001 civic si. It's winter here and I took it to the car wash and when I got out I noticed that it was revving high then leveling out over and over again! It's a five speed, and when I'm driving it, it doesn't do rev or anything at all. And just now the check engine light came on! Please help me!

I searched the forum and the two posts that sounded similar didn't match my cars problem...

Find out why your check engine light is coming on (have it scanned)...it should reveal the problem.

I'm out in the middle of nowhere... an our away from a diagnostics machine. I don't wanna risk hurting anything during that drive

Then find a way to get the diagnostic machine to you...No need to play guessing games with parts. That check engine light code "should" tell you exactly what you need fixed...

I'm no expert, but I couldn't see this hurting anything if it is only affecting your idle...

Sounds like a IAC (Idle Air Control) Valve, But to be sure like everyone else said, I would have that code scanned and it will pop up that problem. Most auto parts stores will "loan" one out if you don't wanna risk the drive. I don't see it hurting any thing except your gas mileage . Hope that helps

Easy way... disconnect the battery for a couple minutes, see if the CEL shuts off. The car wash could have soaked something electrical. See if it stays off, and dont go through the car wash.
It's one of 2 things.... a vacuum leak or a bad IACV.
