I dont think you have to compress it first before you undo the nut

Yes, if it's your stock springs then you will need to get a spring compressor. If you are experienced at doing this, then you can just unscrew it on the floor, but make sure that you're not in the way of the springs when it gets uncompressed. Also there are two bolts that you're going to need to remove from the bottom of the rear shock. 1 is the lower bolt that holds the shock, and 2 is the one that connects the LCA to the hub.

Pretty much the same.
Jack up car,
take wheel off,
remove lower fork bolt,
remove upper fork bolt,
remove fork,
remove 2 top bolts, and that's it.
Now remove the assembly.

haha be careful when you pull the spring, you can take your eye out with that thing, put a 2nd jack under the lca, jack up the shock to compress it before takin out the top bolts off the shock, take out center bolt, slowly release the jack, bang ghetto fabulous!

Hell yes you do. The stock spring is longer than the lowering spring. It will shoot far. You're looking at a broken jaw or black eye if it hits you (especially the fronts).

It can be done without one if you're experience at this. I just put my foot on the hat and point the shock towards a wall about 6 feet away, then unscrew and wallah. It works everytime.

I've done this also. I guess my point is that you NEED a compressor to do it safely. His post made it sound like there was no need. I would hate to see someone surprised when that cap smacked thier face and cracked their jaw or something.

yes i would strongly recommend doing this. you can get seriously hurt if you don't know exactly what you're doing.

but its a pretty easy removal/install, so don't think its very complicated. you just need to know what to do and what to not do.

I use clothes hangers 2 per spring. Wrap it through the springs a few times and make sure the hangers are tight. Then remove the nut. Its very easy and no rental tools plus its safe . HTH

Do ya throw the spring off a cliff then like a ticking time bomb

haha bottom line, if your pullin the springs out other than with a spring compressor theres a chance youll take your eye out, theres tons of ghetto fabulous ways to do it though. Go to your local city and tell a crack head to do it, i bet you 5 bucks they can do the entire thing with only a spoon! reminds me of the marty axle change using a fork.

Why take the hangers off? I don't think you are going to be hanging up anymore clothes with them. I would put the springs in a box and label them. If you decide to put the stock springs back on your going to need a compressor. Most aftermarket drop springs do not require a spring compressor.

While we're talking ghettofab ways, I used wire ties once. Have someone sit in the car so the spring is compressed. Wiretie all of the coils together a bunch of times. Take everything apart. Lay the spring on the ground, cut the first wire tie, and watch the chain reactaion.

Bad idea, but it worked.
