Default My NZ made JDM F20c + ae86 swap * need paint ideas!

Short story: After owning and building my fair share of Hunduhs(sp)
the last 6 years, i thought it was about time to get outta the vtaks game...

my last honda was a k20a powered Ek hatch... before that was an h2b powerd Integra, and before that was an h22a turbo civic coupe...

and by now i was getting a tad bored of fwd... so i swapped my EK for this ae85 levin... and a 98spec ITR...

and it came with one of these donks in it... what looks to be a 1600 twin cam thing... meh who cares what it is... its says toyota and it makes the wheels turn!!
quads and all!

came with a full 6point MANZ cage, along with log book... hoorah!

supra gearbox and hilux diff and coilover suspension up front and TRD springs in the rear..
a set of oldschool volk reverse mesh wrapped in dz101s up front and Trampio's! on the rear hold this beast to the ground!

after driving this thing for a month, all i can say is.. its an animal!

the tacho dusnt work, the brakes dont work but who cares its a great barrel of fun!! the lil 1600 4age pulls quite well and a kick of the clutch sends the whole thing in an opposite direction! i think its called drifting/spinning out but who knows im still learning the rwd lingo

ANYWAYS, to turn a long story short... I ended up selling my 98spec ITR to some theiving asian bastard (friend of mine) for the sum of 10,000 and being my 22nd birthday decided id go shopping for my self......

since the ae85 only had one seat no heater and no stereo and i just sold my ITR beator... i had to pick up a new run about

phooooar ! another corolla! i realy have turned to the darkside now!

Next on my shopping list was a trip to the liqour store

sorted!
after that i ended up going to sleep ( most likely from driving the new beater..) or from watching the rugby(worldcup).. take your pick

saturday rolled around
and 3rd on my shopping list took me to auckland...

after getting lost for a good half an hour EVEN with a map..
I finaly got my hands on some new shoes for the AE

sport maxx 15x8 with zero offset.... and ruffly 3.5" of dish.... quote borat here ________ yum yum

now seeing as it was my 22nd and all, and my 21st was **** poor i had to redeem myself for this year.... I took my big wod of 10k cash; less for the wheels and headed on over to strong for honda... auto dismantlers

after a quick **** in the showroom looking at this

I pulled up my pants and handed over some more moola....

.....2 hours pass..... and a carefull drive back to hamilton and

this now resides in my garage

plans are to also panel and paint the car!! i sorted out a deal with one of my good friends who has done a bit of both... and i sold him my toyota drivetrain to pay for it all

dropped off and picked up the AE from the painter, he kindly ripped out his new toy... the old 4age... and also took the front guards and bumper to start with the test paint :D

finaly the torqueless wonder is outta there!

fitted some rubber to the new wheels.... ripped off the old volk reverse mesh... I will get them cleaned up and painted and may use them as spare racing mags as they are bloody light!

heres a comparison between the new and the old...

ahhh offset... yum!

^^looks like some flaring and guard work wil be needed to get the 225s in!

now.... the real work starts

crossmember out to be modified to fit the F20c

update:

Fabrication... part 1:

Modifying AE crossmember

the 4age sits up on welded brackets... which need to be modified and moved rearwards to the edge of the x-member

and a grindin

i smelt sumthing burning... looked down and my jacket cuaght on fire ops:

overalls NOW on :D

decided to reinstall the crossmember to finish the rest of the modification needed to mount the motor... ran into a bit of a problem with the front wheels binding with the spacer nuts....

4hours later... sorted and now on 4 wheels!

TIME TO DROP THE MOTOR IN... w00t!

2nd bump in the road... motor is sitting a tad too high... next plan of action... drop the subframe down 2"

now once the motor was in... had to get the damn thing centerd
I pressume this needs to be done... who knows... but il get the damn thing centerd anyway!

between frame rails measured 34inches... yes im american i use inches..

1st attempt.. little off

a quick "shunt" saw the motor bang on the money

marking out where mounts need to sit

air con is the perfect "chair" for the engine to sit on

took my angle grinder/ saw to the x-member one more time... dont worry guys.. this thing is going to be nice and strong with 5-6mm plate steel .... re welded back in...

droped tank... gay as job....

got cuttin again! no turning back now! f20c g-box is twice as big as the old toyota box, so need to make some room

tada!

motor still needs to go ... down.... down down... either that or cut a hole in the bonnent 8O

more shopping

also ripped out the old radius/castor arm rods

to be replaced with pillow ball/adjustable items

crossmember completed.. just needs paint...

making new engine mounts... usuing old toyota platforms and s2k plates

got the crossmember spacers in! bonnent closes!!

welded new mounts in

still bang on!

cheers guys, i just cant wait to get rid of the ketchup red paint

due to being RHD, the steering collum gets in the way of the stock headers... so custom headers are needed.... stupid RHD its over rated i tell ya
