What has 8 arms and likes to turn wrenches on Sunday Afternoon?
Me, Duh. So yesterday I decided that I had enough of all my parts sitting around and collecting dust and got cracking on the last 8 valves on the exhaust side of my H22 head. Mgags7 and I started almost a month ago and since we're both busy partying, working, and fending off legions of salty wenches I took it upon myself to try and finish this madness.
When i first started this all I could think about was sending one of the keepers rocketing off through the garage at Mach 17 only to wedge itself in an unknown crevasse, leaving me up $h*ts creek w/no paddle seeing as that I only had exactly enough keepers to finish the job. The reason I say Mach 17 is because it happened several times when Matt and I were doing his head and all you hear is a pop/snap noise, a ton of ricocheting and then silence
..
Like I said earlier Mgags7 and myself had done this several times before (the first time being in early January/February of this year putting in his Crower Cams and matching springs/retainers in the dark with the motor in the car. So I figure if i did that i could manage this by myself.....with minimal F ups.
So i get started and b4 I know it i've finished in around 45 min total. I neglected to take pictures of the tools we used before, but the only one I really needed was a magnetic hook (shown below). With one arm I wrenched down on the valve spring compressor (I added the end of a craftsman jack handle for more leverage) and hada use my legs to keep the head down b/c it wasnt attached to anything and im way too buff for my own good, lol. Anyways all i really had to do was get the keeper stuck on the hook and kinda drop it into the space provided by the spring compressor and from there i really just had to use my fingers to get them to seat correctly combined with some finagling of the spring compressor.
Im almost tempted to say it was easy, but then again that was approximately the 4th time i've done it, but before the head was always attached to a block and there were two of us working together instead of me pretending to be an octopus.
Anyways, enough chatting, on with the pics!!
FYI...they arent in any particular order and yes im a girl b/c I hosted them on Facebook. Dont hate, its free hosting and im too lazy to set up another account.
Enjoy
Just an idea of what im working with here. You cant really see all the tools/parts, bu t u get to see how fun this was...

Here you can see one of the keepers in place. Honestly my fingers worked best for this b/c I could push/wiggle them both in @ the same time.

Both of them in with the beloved magnetic (straight) hooking dohickey

This is basically all I had to do, just pick em up like this and drop it in. It worked awesome.

U can see part of me in action. Both legs and arms workin and I hada use my shoulder/neck/head to hold the valve spring comp. in place while i took this pic.

The finished product (well sorta)
SOMEONE SELL ME THEIR VIRGIN 5SPD P13!!!....please

Good work.
As for your acrobatics, maybe I can save you some trouble next time. I used this one from http://www.euroexportinc.com during my valve seal rr, and it was fairly painless. Pretty cheap at $60 too.

Well he wasnt there this time. We were supposed to do it a week or two ago on saturday, but as i was leaving work he called me and told me he had decided to go to the NCSU football game instead so I was up ***** creek solo style. So on sunday i just decided to take a whack @ it myself and the worst that could happen is that i'd end up having to order more keepers and it would just do what its been doing for the last few months......sitting.
How long until you get that bottom end together?

A little kerosene and some Simple Green and it would look much better. </TD></TR></TABLE>
Yea I know the block looks like i rubbed poop all over it and let it dry. The cleaning will come shortly, the filthy look is gettin old.

where did you get your keepers from. i need a whole set. those ******* are expensive. i ordered some from advance but they were the wrong size
I originally purchased the head from bb_One and it was sold to me complete, however it had bent valves. The spare one or two that I had I got from Matt. He had a few left over from when he did his Crower swap.

Not exactly sure yet. Earlier today an opportunity crawled its way into my lap and depending on what happens with this the H22 might go on hiatus for a min or indefinitely.
