Finally Spoon Equipped - First Drive Review and Pictures
Keep your hands inside at all times - the Spoon roller coaster has just begun...
In one word - Amazing! I noticed a difference in how the car drives even before I left the Acura parking lot. No joke! The Spoon calipers are so much lighter than the stock calipers that considerably less effort is needed to turn the steering wheel. This sure caught me by surprise. It feels like the power steering is on overdrive. The spoon calipers weigh about 5.5 pounds each while the stock calipers are approximately 13.5 pounds each.
Brake feel and control is quite a bit different from stock. The new braking pedal range is about two times longer than the stock setup. This allows you to have more control during aggressive breaking or during normal driving situations. In addition, the actuation of the brakes is now more linear than the abrupt and almost immediate bite of the stock system. This is the primary characteristic that makes them a killer tool out on the track. Even with the improved braking force that the Spoon calipers provide, the driver can avoid locking up the wheels while driving at the limit.
The pedal feel is fantastic. I did a few aggressive braking passes from 80 to 50 mph (probably only about 75% max) and the car’s speed dropped like a rock. You can feel how the four piston design displaces the braking force on the caliper more evenly from the brake pad, again, allowing for more control and less drama.
Here are a couple pictures of the virgin Spoon calipers and Brembo rotors. It's time to hit the road again.

Wow, looks nice. I have a question. Since acura installed them, are you still under warranty?

But installing aftermarket products will not terminate your warranty. However, If a vehicle has a warranty and the aftermarket brakes fail and it's not caused by a problem due to installation Acura would not be liable. The rest of the car will still be under warranty.

What kind of pads are you running? I'm sure they make a larger difference in pedal feel, initial bite than calipers themselves.

I always wondered of the VOLKS TE37's would clear the the spoon calipers I wonder if 15,16's would clear as well?
I'm no mechanic but I remember that when I first bought my car, I was advised to take it easy on the brakes for a couple hundred miles. Wouldn't this advice apply to you since you just installed new brake components? Just a thought...
That's true, but that's only valid if the brake pads are new. Since Josh is using stock pads, there is no need to break them in. Kinda off topic, but are there any brake upgrades for the rear brakes??
