transmission question s80
on my tranny it has the s80 sticker on it. but my question is how can i tell if its an ls or gsr tranny? im pretty sure its a gsr but how can i tell for sure?? any help would be appreciated.
One way is to open the case and count the ring gear teeth...hehe. 66 teeth is GSR, 64 teeth is LS.
Otherwise you will have to get the list of gear ratios, figure out the % drop between gears. Drive at some certain rpm, shift and see what rpm you end up at. Since 1-2 gears are the same between LS & GSR you need to do it shifting from 2-3, 3-4, or 4-5. There are more complicated math equations you can do but they also involve driving around, writing down rpm, speed, knowing tire size, blah blah. If this other method don't work just ask I'll post that up if someone else hasn't already...

an easier was is see what your rpms are in 5th gear, at about 60 mph, level road.
the gsr fifth will be way higher than the ls. at 60 in 5th, the ls will be spinning somewhere AROUND 2600, give or take. the gsr will be closer to 3000, (an the b16 trans will be a little higher than that)
