K swap in 92 prelude
i am currently looking into buying a 92 honda prelude with a bad motor for 400 bucks, i am wanting to swap a k-motor, K24a2 or K20a2 just need to find one for a good price, but has anyone does stuck a k-motor in a prelude of this gen
you don't want to do that. putting a k series engine into a prelude will cost more than it is worth.
take the money you would have spent on the k swap and spend it on building a nasty h23vtec to put in there.

i have no idea what kind of work the motor needs, my dad has ran across a rolled rsx from his friend at a junkyard before and would have sold it to him for 900 bucks, this was before i even new jack about cars or i would have had get snag that ****, h23 vtec is a lot of work, i would almost be better getting a h22 for all the work, but expletive it why not k-motor it has way more potential than any honda motor, the K is the new steez, someone has to do it why not me, if all goes well, i am hoping to do it this next summer or sooner before i go to college
h23vtec > h22
K does not have way more potential than any other honda motor, and chances are you won't be anywhere near potential anyway.
unless you're damn handy with a welder and some suspension geometry work, and custom axles, pretty sick with custom wiring, and a good tuner. YOURE SCREWED
like I said, bad idea. just build a baller h series, it will be 10% of the work you would do.

Ur an idiot, if u dont think the k-motor has more potenial ur an idiot, yea its expensive but its worth it, name any other honda motor that you can swap into a hatch civic put slicks on it and run with BASIC bolt ons and get 12.5 in the quarter, WTF do you call that, all it takes intake header exhaust and decent cam with K-pro and a nasty tune and you can get 240 at the wheels

That's just screwed it for you.. If you think Matt, mgags7, is an idiot you're pretty much out of luck. Might as well stop asking.. He might not be the smarting guy on H-T, but most of the really smart guys are to busy to worry with your thread.
Don't come in here telling other people what's what when YOU'RE ASKING US.
Good luck on your build that will take much longer than just a summer. Have fun, and I hope you have a lot of tools.
But I completely agree with Matt. Can't wait to see him rip you a new one. :D

in my original post i just wanted to know if anyone has done it, and anybody who thinks any honda motor has just as much potential as a k motor is not right, the K motor is the technology, end of story, just because i am being different i am getting flagged
Trending Topics
i am kind of over this, the k20a2 head flows way better than any honda and responds to bolt ons way better than any other honda motor, yeah i could drop and h22 and h23vtec and spend as much money on a k-motor with more horsepower, but once you start that sort of modification you sacrifice driveability, and reliabiltiy, with a K-motor you will get the power with the Honda reliabiltiy, i am not saying that all modded cars are gonna blow up, but face the facts a car with a turbo or nitrous is not gonna last as long as near stock honda motor, so what, if somebody has done i dont care, i was just trying to seek out some pics if somebody has done it they could give a link or whatever, anybody can talk **** behing their computer, if i get this prelude the only motor that is going in it is a prelude FU C-K the rest and you
No, no one has swapped a K-Series into a 4thGen Prelude as far as I know.
There has been at least one K-Series swapped into a 5thGen Prelude.
You thinking that all other Honda engines are inferior to the K-Series is ignorant.
So the H-Series, B-Series, and others, don't have Technology? And they can't be as powerful as a K-Series?? The K-Series got it's Technology from Honda's other Engines.
I want to know what the K-Series has the other engines, like the H22 doesn't have.
If you think a H23VTEC build is to much work, the how do the heck do you think swapping in a COMPLETELY different Engine setup into your car is going to be any easier?!?
We're not "flagging" you for being different, we're "flagging" because you're bashing us when we're telling you how much more difficult it will be than a H-Series Build.
Do some research, and then come tell us how to do it. Because we have, and will not be able to help. Sorry

when did i say that all other honda motors are inferior, i personall would rather go through the trouble of making custom motor mounts and doing a **** load of welding and fabrication than rebuild a h23 or h22, i know its gonna be difficult as hell, i definetly think in the end it will be worth it, seeing the k-motor underneath the hood of a prelude
So you say the K-Series Engine is more Reliable than all other Honda Engines?
And how much more HP do you think a K-Series makes over say a H22?
And HP isn't all you need, you need TQ to pull the Heavier Preludes.
No one is talking crap to you buddy, we're telling you that you're not thinking logically, and that's it's much more complicated that you think.

i am officially done replying because this is stupid now, but if i get this prelude, a k-motor will go in it, and i will display all of the costs, and end the end i think everyone will be surprised, im done, by the way B- series are the **** look at integra type-r's and the H22 are gnarly, but i think in the end i will way more satisfied with a K motor, i know it will be difficult

1) Nobody has done it.
2) It will cost you a ton to do it.
3) Your car, with an H series in it, and the same amount of money spent, will be faster.
4) If you're not a dumbass (not applicable to you) you can build an engine better than a factory can.
5) Any good head shop can make an h22 head flow more than a k series head. Metal is metal dude, you can shape it how you like.
The ONLY advantage the k series has is an oem 99mm crank (cheap) and VTC, which you probably don't know **** about.
I agree that the K is a great engine for bolt ons. If you want a K series so bad, get a civic or an integra, and get teh FACK out of the prelude forum.

I hope you spend every last dollar you have doing this swap only to get smoked by someone with a built h23vtec or h22 that cost a fraction of what you payed. It will cost you most likely around 7-10k to get this done right, maybe more. That is just for a stock K. You might as well save up your little pennis for an rsx, civic or whatever.

I don't quite think you understand the amount of custom work you will need to do.
Custom mounts
Custom axles
Custom fuel setup (k series does not use a return line to the fuel tank)
Custom exhaust header
Custom exhaust system
Custom hood because the IM will never fit
Custom engine mounts
Custom axles
Custom engine wiring harness
Custom ecu harness with all the wires added for the k series ecu and obd2b connectors custom wired in.
Custom shift linkage.
You're going to need to hack up the subframe as well.
sounds like a great idea for 25 more out of the box whp.
H23vtec > you.

lol, Good luck. Have fun. And can't wait to see the end results.
We won't be expecting you back anytime soon, I can assure you that.. It's going to take much longer to do than you think.
Be sure to let us know what happens..
If you want do something different, drop a V6 in the Prelude.
Or maybe a Big Block American V8.
There's a guy on here that did/doing a LS1 swap into a 4thGen.
Bye

yeah not to mention clearance issues for the motor to engine bay. I read like a page on that Kseries 5th gen and stopped absorbing info. He had to hack at the frame to make it fit, and if im not mistaken 4th gens are shorter too which makes ground clearance an issue and limits your suspension (ur car will only work on flat ground) The idea of having a "better" platform is good, but there hasn't been any REAL progress for it and no aftermarket support, therefore making the idea stupid and not-worth-it. (f u, my english is perfect.)
anyways, listen to the people who've probably been in the honda game much longer. oh and about the 400$ prelude + 900$ RSX, those are great prices but not the true guide to how much your car will cost. i was thinking what ur thinking right now when i was 14 (in driver's ed and stuff thinking about cars) but when u get into the knitty gritty, u essentially have to pay for all the little stuff that add up to more and more. i guesstimated my own personal 5th gen lude to be 42-4500$ (BEING GENEROUS) but I neglected a few things and itll be right around 5g's to be perfect (getting some nice tires) real life costs > guesstimation.
ANYWAYS, if u decide to give us all a huge "up yours H-T" and do it, good luck. I'll take satisfaction in knowing I have a FUNCTIONAL car. not breaking records or making huge power, but isn't (for the lack of a better word) RETARDED like a car that can only go straight and on flat surfaces otherwise the header rips right off.
