Steering Column Swap?
My project car is a 98 Teg that is a recovered theft and has a broken ignition. I recently picked up a parts car - a 97 teg that was in a accident - and was wondering if I could swap the entire steering column so I have a working ignition? I was hoping to swap the column by separating it at the spline by the driver floor. Will the car run if I make this swap and clip it into mt project car? I have the key for that column and it is not broken...
Shouldn't it be possible to just remove the ignition switch from the column and install it on the 98? Swapping out the whole column just for an electrical switch seems a little extreme to me.
well, i got the column out of the wreked car with 5 bolts, so it seems a lot easier to swap the entire thing. I just thought there could be a problem with electrical connections betweent the 2 cars...i'll give it a shot
Well I made the swap today - took a steering column from a 97 LS and put it into a 98 GSR car. It was pretty much plug and play except for one of the brown clips that goes directly to the fuse box. The LS clip had the same 3 wires(yellow, white, black) but in different locations in the clip. I disassembled the clip and made it match the terminals on the fuse box where it plugs in. Do you think this is ok? I don't see why it won't work but I just wonder why a LS steering column is wired different than a GSR? I can't try it because there is no engine in the car. Any thoughts?
