you gotta put a pin in the plug near the ecu under the passenger side, glove box area. theres a pin, I believe its a grey or white plug, with brown and green wire coming from it (i could be wrong about the colors) just use a paper clip and stick one end in each slot, then turn your key to accessory position and read the blinking CEL codes. Theres a list of codes either on here or on g2ic, just search for the list I dont have it handy

the check engine lite will blink slow for the 10 space fast for the 1 space. then there will be a long gap and if you have more then one code the flash sequence will be different if it starts to repeat the same sequence you have gotten all the codes.

or just read here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=978933

also did a test and unplugged my vtec solenoid and got the code 21, so i know it is reading right and i am doing it right.

no not at all but when i did the test i got two flashes =20 then one short flash =1 so i got the code 21 for that but that was just a test. reconnected the solenoid, resetted the ecu by dis connecting the battery for a while tried again and the light still comes on solid. :-(

got it figured out. on obd1 cars when you turn on the car the check engine light comes on along with the fuel pump but when the fuel pump finishes priming the check engine light should go off. if it stays on you are throwing a code. when checking for cels on a obd1 car car and you have the plug jumped if the check engine light stays on then that means everything is ok. if the light starts to flash then you got to get the code to determine what is the problem lonf flash =10 shaort flash =1. for example when i tested it i unplugged the vtec solenoid and got two long flashes which =20 the one short flash which =1 so i got the code 21 which is for the vtec solenoid. also if you have the car on regularly driving and the check engine light comes on this also means you are throwing a code.

so plug jumped and check engine light is solid you are ok. no codes
plug jumped and check engine light flashes count the flashes to determine the code
long flash=10 short flash=1
regular driving and check engine light comes on. you are throwing a code and have to jump the pluf to get the code by the flashes.
hope this helps all who are having code problems.

oh did a search and directed me to this link. but i drive a91 civic that is converted to obd1 not a integra.
