Default JDM SOHC LSD Tranny Ques.

I've got a '97 EX with the D16Y8 that needs a new tranny. I've found someone selling the above tranny with axles and halfshafts. Will this JDM tranny simply bolt-on to my D16Y8? And are the ratios identical to the US market SOHC Civics? Lastly, are there marks on the tranny housing itself to identify it as an LSD? Thanks for any info

if the tranny is hydro ZC DOHC tranny then yes it will bolt up but check your block see if its predrilled for the half shaft...

your other choice would be to use 92-5 VTi tranny which doesn't require half shaft or new axles (also comes LSD = about 5-10% of all sold)

as far as ratios JDM '96-00 ratios suck.....92-5 USDM/JDM and 96-00 USDM are all on par, and are all alike

LSD trannies only came with 4.25FD

look thru the hole to tell if it's lsd or not. the jdm d15 lsd tranny doesn't not have intermidiate (half) shaft, you can use your stock axles. and it's not good if you are planning on going turbo, lsd will go.

and it will bolt up without problems

you can look straight through the diff. On an open diff trans, there is a rod going through.

err if it is the lsd one you'd better buy it.

they're rare as you could imagine,

I talked to hmotorsonline today,
they said they were sold out of the normal 5spds at 150 each..
the LSD ones also were sold out, and if they did get them in they'd be an EXTRA 300bucks..
thats 450for the transmission...

Wow, blast from the past For an update, I ended up getting another Y8 tranny which has been working great (been about 2 years now). The guy in IL (I was living in WI at the time) wanted ALOT for the SOHC LSD tranny - something like $800.

hahahaha, for $800 my friend will prolly let you have the tranny, his ACT clutch and axles lol and it still would considered a rip off somewhat.

a y8 tranny doesnt have a limited slip differential

we have frontwheel drive cars..
all the weight is over the same two tires that do all the turning and braking and acceleration. something that helps manage that grip can be verrrrry special.

800 is kinda ridiculous though.
